Grates great
This thing is very effective at pulverizing your nutmeg, as well as excellent on zesting a lemon. The shape of the graters manages to hold a bit of the moistness from the citrus so you get a nice fine zest that's not soggy. It is a bit hard to hold since it's small, and I find the removable rubber foot to be handy for not sliding around at first, but I usually take it off so that the grated substance can fall freely onto my cutting board. But changing my grip helps with the slight discomfort, and it's not too bad. I don't know that the top compartment for storing whole nutmegs is all that useful since I store mine separately and also use this for zesting, but I don't mind it and someone with better organization may love that feature. #1 though is the sharpness and effectiveness of this to grate stuff, and the great price point.

Very sharp - very effective
The last nutmeg grater I had was supposed to store the nutmeg inside of a spring loaded cylinder so you just had to rub it back and forth across the grater. Unfortunately when the nutmeg was almost whole the spring popped the thing apart!THIS grater works properly. It is extremely sharp, so you do have to watch the placement of your fingers while you are doing the grating, but it handles even the very dry, hard outer coating of the nutmegs very well. As someone else mentioned, the top storage container looks small, but it actually holds a pretty good size "nut".The only slight drawback is that a bit of the ground powder does get into the inside of the gadget and you wind up with a little nutmeg powder on your shelf when you stand it up back in the cabinet. This is very minor and not worth downgrading the excellent rating of this great and inexpensive kitchen necessity.I make our own homemade nut milk and have found that adding a little ground nutmeg to a new batch of almond milk, along with a small amount of honey gives a most pleasant result. A little extra nutmeg and honey and you have a drink that tastes very much like eggnog but is totally healthful! I also use nutmeg any time I cook spinach. In other words, this grater is used regularly and often. I'm glad I found it on Amazon.

Grates nutmeg really well without effort
I am impressed with this nutmeg grater. I normally don’t buy single purpose kitchen gadgets, but I use nutmeg a lot in cooking and baking, and the flat graters just didn’t work with the whole nutmeg. This one works great, there is no waste and it is comfortable to hold. My only minor complaint is that the compartment to store the nutmegs is pretty small; it may hold 3 full sized nutmegs. But that’s just a mild annoyance and won’t prevent me from using it or recommending it.

Love this little gadget
A storage spot for the piece you’re using. A catch for what you grate. And easy to clean. What more could you ask for. Easy to store and can hang by a nail if you have a small spot for it

Fresh is Best...Try the Norpro Nutmeg Grater!
It used to be that a very sharp little blade was packed in every bottle of whole nutmeg. Had I known that that was no longer the case, I would never have loaned out my blade. Luckily I found this one. I do find it to be much larger and a bit more wieldy than need be; but, have become accustom to it. I do not store a partially grated (or any other) nut in the backspace behind the blade. I simply prefer to have the spice sealed in a glass jar. If you have never grated your own nutmeg, you are in for a treat. The flavor and aroma are warm, pungent and very special. A fresh grating atop pie, whipped cream, hot oats elevate the whole dining experience. Go easy on gratings for your white sauce as there is no comparison to the dry pre-grated stuff. I clean my Norpro Nutmeg grater with a dry (clean, never mouth used) toothbrush. Very seldom do I have buildup of gratings or resin to warrant a scrubbing with water. So if you wet scrub, then be sure to rinse and allow to air dry thoroughly.

Not perfect, but good product for the price. No regrets.
Bought this nutmeg grater for sentimental reasons (mother had one like this when I grew up), as well as for the price.Pros:Good product for the price. Sharp grating surface, nice "pocket" for the nuts-in-use. Sturdy material.Cons:Unless the greating is done directly over the food without measuring, the grater needs to be stood and held upright in some little container to catch the nutmeg powder that comes out of the other end. Powder will, of course, also sprinkle a bit from the grating surface while grating, making grating each time just a tiny bit messy and "elaborate".A nutmeg grater in a closed divice like a pepper grater might be more convenient (and more expensive), but since I have never used one, I cannot say how good they work. The grater doesn't get washed after each use, so it's somewhat messy. It also needs to be stored somewhere... I just lay mine on the bottom shelf in the spice cabinet, where it's somewhat "in the way", but better than in a drawer, where the grating surface might rub against this or that...Bottom line: Still happy with the purchase. Good grater for a good price. If I'd use it more often, I'd consider buying a different type of grater.

Great design cheaply built
I love that it has on board storage for a nut. The rubber foot fell off more than once into the drink. Which is annoying but things aren't perfect. Today the little door was broken. No one had touched it it has never been dropped or even gone into a dishwasher.Love the design, it just should be made a little bit better. I would gladly pay more if it was made better but I won't be buying it again.
