Ok, first off they describe this as a flashlight, it is actually a red laser pointer. The beam is fairly tight, very bright and the red laser spot can easily be seen on the side of a building two blocks away at night. Even in daylight it is still visible at shorter ranges. Indoors it is quite visible in almost all conditions and would be good for pointing out things in slideshows and such. They come with a little ring shaped plastic guard for the button. Don't lose this as it's handy for preventing the laser being turned on in a bag or briefcase and running the battery down. The beam itself is not powerful enough to be seen at night unless the air is very foggy or dusty, so don't expect to see a bright read line in the air like in some of the product pictures, you will only see the spot where the laser hits. One thing you need to be careful of is that these are lasers with way more concentrated bright light than a "flashlight" you really shouldn't shine them into a person or pet's eyes. These lasers don't seem to be powerful enough to be an eye safety hazard, but it is still best to be careful with them. While these are labeled as "eye safe" class II lasers I have bought lasers from China, particularly ones advertised as "flashlights" that turn out to be way more powerful than the label says, so always use care with lasers like this. Other than that, for a nice bright red laser in a sturdy aluminum body with built in rechargeable batteries I think this is a good price (remember you get 2).

No switch for continual use. Have to keep pushing button to stay on. Don’t use the 4 patterns and have to remove cap for pointer. Does not work well for play with animals. Only to point at object for a moment. Poor design.

So my husbands cat is a total psycho and goes absolutely wild for lasers. In fact, she will attack his legs when he's sitting if he doesn't play lasers with her. But, our previous lasers always run out of batteries, and they are expensive to replace. Plus, the laser itself has a dull light. But, thankfully, these rechargeable ones have not had that issue, and they are also very bright, so she never struggles to find it. Unfortunately, because they are so bright, we have to be careful that she doesn't accidentally stare at the laser pointer or that we don't shine it in her eyes. But, as long as we pay attention this hasn't been an issue. I also really like the USB charger, the small rope strap, and the added attachment that can be used for making a "laser show" with hundreds of smaller dots. Overall, I would probably buy this set again.
