Easy on all fronts
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Excellent bean-to-cup coffee maker with great customisation options I’m extremely happy with my new Philips bean-to-cup coffee maker. The setup process was very straightforward, with clear instructions, and I had it up and running quickly. Day-to-day maintenance is also easy, as the machine is simple to clean and doesn’t feel like a chore to look after. I’ve now tried most of the different coffee options available and have been impressed with the quality and consistency of each drink. The coffee tastes fresh and well-balanced, and it’s great being able to enjoy café-style drinks at home. One of the standout features for me is the level of customisation — you can adjust both the strength and the amount of milk for different coffee types, which means everyone in the household can tailor their drink to their own preferences. The machine feels well made and thoughtfully designed, with an intuitive interface that’s easy to navigate. The milk system works very well, producing smooth and creamy milk, and it’s convenient to adjust quantities depending on whether you want a stronger coffee or a milkier drink. Overall, this is a reliable, high-quality bean-to-cup coffee machine that delivers great results with minimal effort. It offers excellent flexibility, is easy to maintain, and consistently produces great-tasting coffee. I would happily recommend it to anyone considering a Philips bean-to coffee machine

Absolutely love it, but
After having this machine for a week, I can wholeheartedly recommend it. It is a bit loud but I keep mine in the cupboard. We got cafe Nero beans to try it with and the coffee really tastes and looks like from a coffee shop! Love it! I would recommend getting some cheap beans to set the grinder right, because even tho the producer says the medium setting is good enough, we did adjust it slightly, and you should only do it while the machine is grinding. We binned 10 first coffees before we set it up properly, but that's was our choice. Also, the first coffee machine had to be sent back as it was leaking inside. Now, the user manual does not require checking the inside brewing compartment, it's not in the set up, and the YouTube video that we watched before we order it, said there's no need to touch anything BUT the part was not put inside properly. After checking the part with Amazon technician we wiggle a bit more with it and the leak has stopped. The next machine we got we knew we needed to take the compartment out and put it in again with a click sound to avoid the same thing happening. So if your waste bin is full of water, I would just take the brewing part out and put it in again properly. Do a few coffees to give the machine time to catch up to new adjustments before you give up. I think it's absolutely worth the effort as it's great quality coffee machine, easy to clean, that makes great selection of coffees.

Overall, a good machine despite drinks sizes being maximum 10oz
Ordered this despite reading some reviews saying the drink isn't hot (I have two commercial bean to cup machines and am used to hearing customers moan about temperatures) so thought, the ones moaning are probably the same people to expect coffee to be boiling like from a kettle. This machine on it's hot setting is the correct temperature, a Caffè latte, cappuccino etc should be between 55°c and 65°c, then the coffee isn't burned, then milk not scorched, and you can drink it straight away, and actually taste it. This machine does that. The first few drinks weren't quite right and the coffee grounds pucks were soggy. About 10 grinds in, the pucks were solid and drier, the coffee excellent. Factory settings produce a great coffee, customising to produce a bigger cup also yielded great results. My only minor gripe, on maximum volumes for espresso, water milk, you can't quite get a 12oz drink, more like 10oz. It's a small machine, so the grounds bin and drip tray need emptying very often, not a bad thing, stops you being lazy and leaving the grounds in for days and letting them rot. Being used to commercial machines, I'm pleased with the build quality, many domestics feel cheap, the milk jug fitment seemed a bit flimsy but, it's actually fairly solid once in place. Very pleased with it and my concerns about temperature were as I thought, people wanting a boiling coffee. If you want your drink too hot, don't buy this, buy one with a steam wand.

Fantastic bean-to-cup machine with lovely milky drinks
I am really pleased with this Philips 5400 Series bean-to-cup machine. The coffee tastes excellent and it’s very easy to use day-to-day. You just fill the beans and water, choose your drink on the touch panel, and it does the rest. The LatteGo milk system is a big plus. It makes smooth, hot milk with a nice foam, and there are no pipes to clean. The milk container comes apart in seconds and you can rinse it under the tap. The 12 drink options give you lots of choice, from espresso to cappuccino and latte, and you can save your favourites in the 4 user profiles, which is great for a family. We each have our own strength and cup size saved. Cleaning and maintenance are straightforward for a machine like this. It reminds you when to empty the pucks and when to run the cleaning cycles, so you don’t have to remember. Noise level is normal for a grinder and not a problem. Overall, this is a great all-round machine if you want fresh coffee at home with proper milk drinks and easy cleaning. For me, it’s worth the price and I would happily recommend it.

Makes good coffee - could be more user configurable
Bought this to replace an old, and finally broken, deLonghi with the 5500, mostly because of the comments on it being quieter than the 5400 - and because they were a similar price. I guess the main thing is that we like the coffee - but there are a few niggles. It would be nice if you could choose which of your favourite drinks appeared on the main screen. As it happens, our favourite factory-set drink is cafe au lait, which is several (seven) presses into the 'more drinks' menu (but which incidentally is on the 5400 home screen). Yes, you can re-program one of the home screen icons but the parameters are not always infinitely variable, depending on which drink style you want. And the temperature control is system wide rather than by profile - not so useful if different users prefer different temperatures. Although it advertises a 1.8L water capacity, it stops feeding when there is still about 250ml in the tank - so actually there is only just over1.5l available to use. This seems to be a common issue which means you have to fill it more frequently than you might expect, and also that about a third of your descaling solution gets wasted. The drip tray fills quite quickly even if we use an empty mug under the spouts to catch most of the rinsing water, so there must be a fair amount of overspill water coming from elsewhere into the drip tray. Beware also, that if you use a mug as described, it will hide the pop-up float in the drip tray so you might not know just how much water there is actually in there. The milk system is simpler than the previous machine but the quick clean is not totally effective. It may clean all the internal milk pathways but it doesn't fully clean the spout which ends up with bits of dried milk around it. Overall it is a good machine if you can get it for the right price.

A Good Coffee Machine
It's almost 2 months since we bought this coffee machine and were very pleased with it. It makes excellent coffee of many different types from a single espresso, through Americano to latte macchiato, all of which are delicious. The frother is easy to use and clean and produces a good foam. One slight criticism is that the cup has to be carefully placed under the frother to avoid the milk missing the cup. Also, when the frother is going through it's cleaning cycle it sometimes misses the drip tray, but these are minor issues and don't take away from the machine. Set up is easy, though the instructions could be better, and the quality of coffee seems to improve with time as the machine beds in. We're glad we chose this machine and if it carries on as it started we would buy it again.

Perfect coffee machine!
It was a replacement to my old coffee machine from a different brand. I was persuaded by easy milk system and it truly is! It makes an absolute brilliant coffee! Milk frother works absolutely amazing - much better than my old one! There are many drinks options as you can set up everything yourself- size and strength. It’s super simple to set it up. The only minus is that it’s working quite loud but it doesn’t take long to make your drink so it’s fine. Brilliant!

Pretty good with a few reservations
Recently bought this on Prime Day, to replace my existing 5 or 6 year old De'Longhi machine which was on its last legs - so naturally I'll be drawing on comparisons to that product in this review. Overall very happy with this machine. Pros: - great range of different drinks, easy to set your preferences and even have different preferences for different users using the profile feature. - definitely uses fewer coffee beans per cup than my old machine so presumably extracts coffee more effectively. This is saving me money especially as I have expensive tastes in coffee. - milk frother is much better than on my old machine - easier to attach, MUCH easier to clean - it has a very clever design which eliminates the 'straw' component which was always the hardest part to clean. It is much smaller which I thought initially would be a problem as I was in the habit of putting ice blocks inside my milk frother to keep the milk fresh, but as this is easier to remove and attach it's much less faff to put back into the fridge between coffees so I don't need to add ice. Cons: - not able to turn off the cup warmer, so wasting energy heating a cup warmer I don't use. - doesn't have a flat top, so if you place anything on top it slides off as the machine vibrates while operating - so I have lost some storage space. - no 'power on' timer (my old machine could be set to power on at e.g. 0750 each day, so it was already rinsed and ready to go when I came downstairs) - this adds maybe 50-60 seconds to the time to prepare a coffee each morning. - quite noisy. - bean hopper is quite small, much smaller than on my De'Longhi machine - I thought this would mean I'd have to refill it more regularly but as it uses much less coffee per cup this isn't as big a deal as I first thought. - overall construction feels much flimsier than my previous machine, e.g. water tank, drip tray, grounds container. Time will tell if this is a problem or not. - milk spout misses the drip tray - which is a problem if your cup isn't placed quite right, and when cleaning the milk frother.
