Great bit of kit
I picked up this OX Tools folding square for some DIY jobs around the house—mainly building shelves, boxing in pipework, and squaring up timber for garden projects—and I’ve got to say, it’s been brilliant. The square feels really solid and well-made, but it’s not too heavy or bulky. The aluminium body is lightweight but strong, and the markings are easy to read (and haven’t worn off like cheaper ones I’ve had). It folds up neatly too, which is perfect for storage—I just chuck it in my toolbox when I’m done. What I really like is how accurate it is. When you’re cutting wood or trying to get things lined up properly, it makes a big difference. I’ve used it for everything from levelling shelves to helping cut mitres and even laying out decking frames. If you’re into DIY and want something reliable that won’t take up loads of space, this is definitely worth the money. Solid, simple, and does the job really well.

Ox setting out square.
Very useful bit of kit for setting out. I have a larger square as well but the compact size of this tool means less faff when in use. Folds away for easy storage.

No good for precise woodworking.
This square is absolutely no good for precise woodworking tasks. It might be of use to an outdoor worker who uses their boots to do measurements ( which in hindsight is probably what it's designed for, ie, laying out bigger jobs ) , but if you are hoping to use it for square cuts , for track saw alignment or to calibrate your saws or tools .....forget it. Its quality is very good as most Ox tools are.....but the design is kind of daft. There is almost 10mm hap between the two right angle sides because of the way they hinge out with a spacer in between. Drawing a line with a pencil has the potential to be off by as much as 7mm probably. And when the two edges are not on the same plane , then certain squaring up tasks are not possible ( and unaccurate...like any square that is at an angle). I wanted a bigger square than my framing and 12" rafter square to get a 3000mm guide rail fully square on a full sheet ( i dont trust any rail squares over that length). This square won't even do that becasue the higher of the square edges rides over the track saw rail edge. And even the flatter one has two stupid hinge buttons that keep a few millimeters up from the work surface , and that means it only grips on the shiny 10mm diameter of each button. All in all , an absolutely ridiculous design of a square in my humble opinion. But I know it is almost identical to the Faithful branded version , so it's not just Ox that are to blame.

High quality ruler. This tool is great for niche and special applications. It can be used for lots of different things, even in the art world such as for mapping out angles on a painting or drawing.

Amazing quality ruler . Built to last . Metal quality is great and seems so durable . Very easy to manipulate and use . Super precise with measurements and angles . Comes in a protective compact case that is easy to carry around. The bleu colour makes reading measurements a piece of cake . Great quality tool for a very reasonable price tag

OK so it's obviously not a precision square, but for framing / drywall sort of accuracy it's been very useful, pretty well made and no issues with it so far, folds up easily and takes up virtually no space unlike a T-square or carpenters square. The carry case it comes with is a nice touch too - as long as it holds up (only time will tell).

I'm very happy with the build quality of this folding square - it has a true 90 and 45 as measured against 2 of my speed squares, and it folds into a nice compact 2 foot line. It folds very well and has blocks to stop you from unfolding it the wrong way. All that aside though, I'm having difficulty recommending this for a few reasons, especially for fine woodworking, which was my intended use case or any sort of precision work like tiling. I can see this being useful for rough carpentry, framing, foundation work. The issues: The only ruler is on the raised side, and per photo #2, this is about 1.3cm (half an inch) off the ground, so it is not very useful for drawing lines, perhaps only for marking. Additionally, the ruler goes from 2 inches to 19.75 inches. They could have engraved additional rulers on other sides, especially the other one close to the ground. The long side (approx 2.8 ft) has no markings at all, which I find is a missed opportunity. Overall, its a great tool when it comes to build quality, but the lack of etchings and the only ruler being off the ground kind of negate those benefits.

I’ve been using the OX Tools 24‑inch folding square for a few weeks on decking and framing jobs, and it’s quickly become my go‑to layout tool. The anodized‑aluminum body feels rock‑solid yet weighs almost nothing, and the laser‑etched markings are crisp and easy to read in bright sun or low‑light basements. Accuracy has been spot‑on so far—sides lock at a precise 90 degrees, and the hinge hasn’t shown any play after repeated folding. The biggest advantage is portability: when folded, the square slips into the supplied soft case and fits neatly in my backpack, sparing me from hauling a full‑size framing square around the site. Set‑up takes seconds—unfold, lock the hinge, and you’re ready for layout lines, rafter cuts, or tile checks. If I had to nit‑pick, the hinge screw will probably need an occasional tighten over time, but that’s true of any folding tool. Overall, excellent quality and a smart design that saves both space and effort.
