It opened easily manually using the key (note that the key hole is under a flap to the left of the key pad - you have to press the right side of the little rectangle to pop it open). Once I installed the batteries, the keypad worked well with the default code. The instructions are simple to understand, the safe is sturdy enough given its cost and, if using the included screws to attach it to a floor or other sturdy surface, would not be easy to steal. However, it might be vulnerable to a pry bar even though the locking bolts are thick. I wouldn't consider it to be fireproof, but I'm no expert on that. Overall, a good buy for the money.

its exactly what it says it is. impenetrable? no... but it will keep people out long enough for them to think "take it or leave it?" and they are only taking it if you don't fasten it to the wall or floor! screws included but I would suggest something stronger. pretty decent and definitely affordable!
