Superb little 2 way radios, Ideal for ham radio enthusiasts on a budget, and those prepared to program and as needed license them for use with other free to access frequencies that fall within their advertised useable ranges. Also compatible with a number of excellent 3rd party firmwares that extend the functionality of the radios, it has been found however that the latest version of the k5prog dosbox flashing tools will be needed to perform this successfully - the browser based ones at this time do not work. Extremely long battery life between charges, signal range is excellent, and vastly superior in clarity and reach to the also often popular Baofeng UV-5R - especially in the circa 440 MHz bands. Also you only need a USB C charge cable to refresh this radios battery, unlike a number of similar models, and the Baofeng's ..all of which require you to use a fairly bulky desktop charging station. Time tested, had mine for around a year now. Solidly built, and would probably take being knocked around a fair bit, though i'm usually quite careful with mine. Definitely more of a radio for the technically inclined mind, you do need to be keen to learn exactly what you have with one of these, and how to fully utilise it.

Whilst the radio is very well built and sturdy , trying to operate it is a nightmare !... no proper instructions , no video tutorials as to how to set it up , does it pick up aeroplane chatter ??..sorry but not for me , the maker should put up some real video tutorials as to how to set this up ...

This transceiver allows a person to monitor and transmit on the 2 meter and 70 centimeter radio bands. To transmit on these bands, in the UK, a Foundation Amateur Radio Licence is required: from the government agency Ofcom. With little knowledge of amateur radio, I have become excited at the possibilities this tiny handheld unit provides. I have already purchased a book that contains all the information I will need to gain my amateur radio licence. Also, I have purchased two additional aerials to increase my ability, at the moment, to receive radio signals from for a greater distance than the excellent compact aerial who comes with the unit provides. The online video community for amateur radio is incredibly enthusiastic and informative; whilst the possibilities to use this transceiver in an emergency is incredibly comforting. I am really very very pleased with it.
