My original review of Whey Isolate from Bulk Supps praised the product for its high quality and consistency. I regret to say that is no longer the case. I have been buying the same Whey Isolate powder from Bulk Supps going on 2 years now, so I am very familiar with the product. Unfortunately my most recent order from 12/2016 completely changed my view of the company. I noticed almost immediately after I opened the new pouch that something was "off". Their normal whey powder is very fluffy and white, and this wasn't the same powder. The color was closer to a beige color and the powder was heavier and more coarse. I didn't really think much of this fact until I began actually trying to mix it with water in a glass. It took forever to dissolve, and left nasty little chunks of powder no matter how much I sitrred. The liquid was a strange sort of goopy vomit color which I didnt find the least bit appealing. When I tried drinking the protein I was taken back by the ghastly, horrible flavor. Now I was sure this wasn't the same powder, because the product I was used to never tasted this bad. I begrudgingly finished the glass and 30 minutes later I had some of the worst upset stomach of my life. This really pissed me off because the whole reason i switched to Bulk Supplements in the first place was because their powder gave me none of these issues. I used to drink cheap Wal Mart protein powders before I switched to Bulk Supplements and this new powder was consistent with the low quality and flavor I remembered from the Wal Mart brands. It became increasingly clear that this "batch" wasn't from their usual supplier, and not the stuff I was used to paying for. They substituted with a different, cheaper powder for whatever reason. I promptly sent out an e-mail to Bulk Supplements explaining my issue along with the batch and lot number of my pouch of protein. Within a day I got a response from their associate Amy. She explained that she looked up the batch number and that yes, they did in fact switch suppliers during that particular time and that they have switched back to the correct supplier. That was it. No apology, no attempt to rectify the matter by sending me out the right product, no offer of a refund or anything. She basically shooed me away to Amazon customer service and that was about it. Lets face it guys; Bulk Supplements charges a high premium for their products, but we as the customer are OK with paying it because they (used to) have a high standard of quality and consitency. I think its very dishonest to temporarily switch to this clearly inferior product without #1 informing your customers and #2 continuing to charge the premium price for the bad product. I replied to Amy, explaining that this doesnt solve my situation at all, and that I was still stuck sitting here with the crappy product which I didnt want be stuck with for the next few weeks. I explained to her that the reasonable solution was to send me the correct powder, and that I could ship them back the "fake" powder they orignally sent me. At this point Amy said this wasn't going to be possible, and that the fake powder was all they hadin stock. Its important to note that this completely contradicts her earlier statement about switching back to the original supplier. I pointed this out and she basically switched to generic customer service responses from that point on. I really liked this company. I recommended them to all my friends and family. I use about seven other products that they produce, but the way they handled this situation disappointed and disgusted me. I have spent well into the thousands on their products and they couldnt handle an issue as basic as this. Also, their dishonestly about their product consistency I found very unbecoming in regards to the company I was used to doing business with.

So far I've tried Bulk Supplements unflavored, unsweetened Casein, Whey Isolate and Egg White. I always use unflavored/unsweetened protein powders in my fruit smoothie recipes because I get plenty of flavor and sweetness from ingredients other than the protein powders, and the minimalist protein powder ingredients allow me to avoid excess sugar. In addition, I love that the Bulk Supplements Whey Isolate powder does not add any off flavors. Its milk-like scent is not apparent once blended into a smoothie, and it enhances the richness of the dairy I use (usually plain yogurt or kefir) which makes for a very satisfying smoothie. I use a Vitamix to blend the smoothie, so I have not noticed any chalk or grit. It does foam up when blended on highest setting. To avoid this, I blend everything but the protein powder on high setting, then add the Whey Isolate and blend a few seconds on a lower setting. With Bulk Supplements' great options in packaging sizes, I was able to try more types of protein powder without a huge investment. It turns out that Bulk Supplements Casein worked better for me than the Whey Isolate, because it held my appetite far longer. However, Whey Isolate is still a super product, and if I mix half / half with Whey Isolate and Casein, I can get the best of both fast and slow acting protein. I don't have anything too critical to say since the product is effective, the price is great and the packaging is not fussy. My only hesitation in repurchasing is that I am trying to avoid soy, and many of the Bulk Supplements products include soy lecithin. I would prefer either sunflower lecithin or none. Regardless, this is a super product for those who want control over what goes into a smoothie or other high protein snacks. My ranking of Bulk Supplements protein powders I've tried: 1-Casein, 2-Whey Isolate, 3-Egg White.

I have been struggling with food aversions lately - sometimes going hours and hours without eating only to end up starving and binging on something full of carbs. I hate the flavor of all artificial sweeteners, so protein powders I’ve tried have always either not tasted good or been incredibly high in calories. This powder has been amazing for me. I make protein bites with it and throw it in milk or almond milk for a quick shake with no weird tastes and a normal calorie count. I mix it with ovaltine if I want chocolate too, but it tastes just fine by itself. The bag doesn’t close well, but I just use a clip and put it in a ziplock to keep it fresh. It doesn’t have any weird tastes/smells in my opinion (something I’m very sensitive to). It does not mix well with cold liquids and just a spoon, but mixes just fine with a shaker bottle. 10/10 - I’m so thankful to have this to help me through frustrating aversion period!
