Q: Is there any way to reset the MAX mode reading? It seems to remember it even after power off.

You need to long press the mode. Then press the setting button until you get to Cu which means Current value then press mode. That will reset the max to zero. Then if you want to go to max display long press mode and press set until you get to Max again you will see its zero. I know it a long process. The engineer of this device should have reset max with one long press of set button but they did not.

It responds to air velocity in real time.

Q: I cannot open the battery compartment to insert the battery. The rear cover seems to be a single piece, with a slightly indented circle. Any ideas?

Take the cover off. Too bad they didn’t include good directions. I found out the hard way.

Q: Is this able to measure air volume coming from a fan? I want to calibrate my variable speed exhaust fan to a specific CFM.

This product will measure the air speed. I use it for measuring the wind speed before and during drone flights. I have used it in the house just to see what the fan discharge air speed was, but I would think in your question this would require air column speed. You would want to have a discharge tube that would pass the entire column of fan discharge through the meter. Rather difficult to do as you will cause resistance capturing the column. Sorry but I'd look elsewhere for a device. Hope this helps.
