this is the dinner set for me- just in time for thanksgiving
I keep telling myself I want to add some bone China to this glass display case I received as a gift several years ago. I grew up in a family where it seemed like everyone had a glass cabinet with a set of China based plates or figurines in them. My grandmother had an elaborate display cabinet contraption where she combined those elements that both represent China based art. I consider anything crafted with an interesting idea art. Normally I do not get into traditional décor or household accessories, however this idea of incorporating China dishes holds a special sort of nostalgic appropriateness. This is due to that connection with my grandmothers' interest and hence a way to stay connected in memory. After searching around for a few minutes, I came across this fifty-seven-piece dinner set from the Joseph Sedgh collection. I am familiar with bone China and am aware there is low to medium then high-grade variations and I like all of them. This wonderful set I would say is within the medium to lower scale of the medium range which is just fine with me. I can make a valid observation of the quality to some degree because I spent some time searching for the right type of high-end bone China dish for one of my family members. This was a few years ago and during that search I educated myself on the high versus lower types of this common dish, plate, or cup along with other items, that use this kind of China. Meaning, I had found a small dish the same price as this whole set which only means that after a certain point bone China becomes similar to precious stone like Jade for example. If you are not familiar with the different types of jade, you would not know that a small chunk of darker jade can be way less expensive that the same sized chunk that is of a lighter type which then can also have white streaks in it. They both look great, and I do not know the difference other than the price tag. This Joseph Sedgh set looks almost identical to a higher priced alternative. There is some significance to the degree of transparency, but I'm not qualified to go into detail about that other than some types of better bone China seems more like pure glass with a faint almost homographic coating. I love this set and am impressed with the main plates and cups with the smaller items being a big surprise. The salt and pepper shakers are elegant and solid enough, so my cats will not try to make them toys. The cups are just what I was hoping they would look like. The boarder design as well as the theme of the more elaborately decorated pieces such as the cream or tea pouring piece, simple yet detailed. Simple in it is a solid gold/brown color with a traditional boarder yet the main pattern acts as a sort of maze that you can follow visually around the Chine pieces. If you are entertaining guests that are not that interesting and you want to zone out a but without being obvious, you can follow that maze like pattern around your plate in a circular manner for a while. I recommend this dinner set because I find it delightful, and it made my thanksgiving dinner extra special.
