Those were the days ...
It's all here – everything you ever wanted to remember about the seventies but were afraid to look back at. The full collection of 24 wisecracking, Ferrari powered, Martini-sipping, dolly-squeezing episodes is a gallop down memory lane for people of a certain age, and a jaw-dropping peephole back in time for a younger generation. Memories are made of this.Seventies style is the great – even historical – charm of this series. Fast cars, millionaires, casinos … a rollicking, over-the-top, sunshine Riviera lifestyle which offered a welcome relief from the tungsten-lit, meat-paste-sandwich existence endured by most of the TV audience of the day. In a 1971 Britain where the highlight of the year was being converted to natural gas, 'The Persuaders' larged it and with glitzy comic panache.Tony Curtis and Roger Moore are perfectly matched in this tongue-in-cheek antique, bouncing ad-lib and repartee off each other like a seasoned double act, pistol in one hand, champagne glass in the other. The seeds of Moore's forthcoming Bond interpretation were clearly sown here.Episode One introduces us to millionaire playboys Danny Wilde (Curtis) and Lord Brett Sinclair (Moore), who are thrust comically together by the machinations of former Judge Fulton, now in luxury retirement in the south of France. They take up the Judge's challenge, to bring to justice some of those who have escaped his judicial net in the past and subsequently Wilde and Sinclair joke, drink, flirt and punch their way through the series, always getting their man and surrounding themselves with tasty totty into the bargain.Yes, the sets look cheap, the hair-do's are lacquered to withstand nuclear attack and Brett Sinclair's wardrobe (designed by Roger Moore) defies description, but for a taste of excitement from the tiny niche of a pre-decimal, post-sixties world, it doesn't get better than this. This is a world where men are men and women are willing; where the hotel manager always knows your name and your usual suite is reserved; where the headwaiter shows you to the best table and the prettiest girl at the poolside falls instantly for your chat up line. And having dispensed with the baddies, straightened your tie and finished your cocktail, you screech off into the St Tropez sunset in your Aston Martin, with a mini-skirted leggy blonde.Curtis and Moore had a ball when they made 'The Persuaders' and it shows. The humour, enjoyment and warmth they bring to their performances are clearly genuine and they stroll effortlessly through each episode, inviting the viewer to sit back and enjoy their exaggerated antics. So, get the Space Hopper down from the attic, shake the moths out of the tank-top, fluff up the sideburns, and settle down for a nostalgia-fest of epic proportions. Sheer bliss.

Fully Persuaded to buy!
This was purchased as a gift for someone in the family. Slight knocked edge on the outer sleevecasing, but the DVD case and the DVD's look nice and clean. I finally 'persuaded' myself to buy it when I realised it had quite a selection of extras. Must admit I would enjoy watching it myself, as I really liked the series when it was on TV, and always hankered after Tony Curtis's Ferrari, but probably in blue, not the red :-)

PERSUADERS COMPLETE COLLECTION. 6 DISCS, ALL 24 EPISODES. (Netherlands Import)
This is a review of the Dutch Persuaders DVD collection. Firstly it is (or was) great value. Just over ten pounds (significantly cheaper than the UK collection). Secondly, be reassured the episodes play in English with subtitles that can very easily be removed. Thirdly it is a really neat package; a relatively slim plastic box set. And the picture quality is very good. On the negative side the text on the back of the box is in Dutch, and perhaps more annoyingly the episodes are completely out of order. The saving grace is that the set does start with episode 1 which sets up the concept and rationale of the whole series; and quite honestly the remaining episodes are all self contained and so really can be enjoyed in any order. The episodes themselves are classic 70's TV. So; often cringeworthy, sometimes funny, always a bit tongue in cheek and occasionally quite dramatic. The relationship between Moore and Curtis is a bit cliché, but well executed. Pacing, as in most 70's TV, now seems very slow at times, but the action sequences and car chases, (particularly episode 1), are generally exellent. Not quite "The Saint" or "Danger Man" but great fun to watch on a dull Sunday afternoon! And for ten quid you can't really go wrong.

Moore was teamed brilliantly with Curtis
Very HIGH camp and full of innuendo, Moore was teamed brilliantly with Curtis, Curtis is the better actor where Moore is more of a Hollywood film star. This may be from the early 70’s but be in no doubt that these tongue in cheek videos could stand the test of time and anyone may have been forgiven for thinking that they had been recently made.I especially like the special features which gives an hilarious account of what Tony Curtis thought of some of the actors and actresses and directors/cameramen, one springs to mind where Tony Curtis, matter of fact, told Joan Collins to “Stop being a C**T” to her face, after she was being difficult about her looks on camera, then and according to the late Tony Curtis, Joan Collins shouted at the director, to her horror, “HE (Tony Curtis) HAS JUST CALLED ME A C**T”!This had me rolling about on the floor in tears of laughter, and as I recall these words, am laughing now typing this review!Tony Curtis seemed to steal the show by classic one liners, on the other hand and credit to Moore, without Moore’s part, Curtis character would have not been as good as the chemistry would not have been there. Also, a trip down memory lane as you get to spot as many famous British Actors of the 1960’s and the occasional Hollywood actor would turn up.My only disappointment is that Moore was offered James Bond roles and thus brought to an end one of the finest British classic T.V. series of the 70’s.If strong language offends then avoid this but if you should buy it, don’t play the special features!

Takes me back
I had to buy this when I saw it. It takes me back to my teenage years. Roger Moore and Tony Curtis make a great team. Nothing too cerebral, but are a lot of fun. Might be a little dated for the modern generation, but, I watched the originals, and I really enjoy them.

Stars Roger Moore and Tony Curtis.
Great Cast. Box Set was only $19.00 with 24 episodes. Was filmed mostly in Monty Carlo with Great Beaches. Was made in the 1960,s just before Roger Moore moved over as James Bond . Picture and sound is perfect. Was of the best deals I have ever purchased. Michael

60’s classic
A trip down memory lane… who couldn’t love a program that features an Aston Martin DBS V8 and a Ferrari? The story lines are a bit dated but the good guys always win and the damsels (who are played by some of the most gorgeous actresses of the time) are always rescued. It’s a good fun series that certainly does not take itself.seriously.
