Minisforum UM880 Plus: A Compact Powerhouse with Excellent Support
The Minisforum UM880 Plus is a seriously cool mini PC. I initially bought it to replace my son's aging all-in-one (AIO) desktop, which had become painfully slow with the software he uses. My first thought was to stick with the AIO format to save space under the desk. After researching the current market, I realized that a typical 27-inch, 1080p AIO with average specs—like an AMD Ryzen 5, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD—would run me around $1,000 after tax. A quick bit of research led me to a much better solution: buying a mini PC with significantly superior hardware and pairing it with a nice 27-inch 4K monitor. This combination not only delivered a similar compact footprint but also cost me several hundred dollars less. After comparing brands like Beelink, GMKTEC, and Minisforum, I settled on the Minisforum UM880 Plus. I was impressed by its powerful, future-proof hardware (including an OCuLink port!) offered at a reasonable price point. We were happy users for about four months (since mid-April 2025) with absolutely no issues. The performance was fantastic. Then, one day, my son told me the mini PC wouldn't turn on. That was my single biggest moment of frustration with the product. Fortunately, Minisforum's customer service was exceptionally fast and reassuring. They quickly sent me a FedEx shipping label and promised the repair would take only about 48 hours at the US located repair center. I was genuinely surprised when I received a text from FedEx confirming an upcoming delivery just a few days later. The repaired mini PC was delivered the next day. I tested it, and we haven't had any issues since. I'd like to extend a big thank you to Andy, the Minisforum customer representative. He was incredibly responsive to all my questions and ensured the entire repair process was smooth and stress-free. Final Verdict: Would I buy this mini PC again? At this moment, my answer is a definitive yes. The combination of top-tier hardware, compact size, and outstanding customer support makes the UM880 Plus an easy recommendation.

Very capable tiny PC.
I'd rate it a 4.5 stars only because this is a tiny PC that can do most tasks you want and even some light gaming. This is a secondary PC for the main room to play light steam games. NVME is about 5400MB\s and 4000MB\s read write speeds. You can put a Gen4 NVME Predator drive and see full speed of 7500+MB\s and 5000MB\s read write. It does come with an adapter for the second slot for a SATA 3.5" SSD if you wish, but you can't have 2x NVME and SSD. USB3.2 is supported. I have a 512GB thumb drive with 1000MB\s and it's pretty close to that speed. It only has two USB2.0 ports so if you have a wireless keyboard or mouse, you'll be struggling for other devices. It only has one USB-C 4.0, but it is a godsend for being able to use one cable for powering up my monitor and sending data to the monitor's USB 3.0 port. I have it to a hub which lets me have a thumbprint reader for logging in, an SD card reader for my cameras, and a half size gaming keyboard. Before I had to have a separate power cord to the monitor and an HDMI cable. Now I can power it alone by the one USB4 cable and even when turned off, it supplies power to the monitor to let me use my nVidia Shield for TV watching with the HDMI. It will be able to do RAW photo edits in PS, LR, or DxO Photo Lab. There isn't Ai exceleration for DxO or Topaz Sharpening since it's an AMD GPU and nVidia owns that area. I tested out Path of Exile and while it did start on 4K resolution and low frame rate, I dropped it to 1080p@60 with everything turned on and it never dropped below 60fps until I got into a town. The stuttering probably happened with loading on new NPCs and town assets. It also ran Trials of Mana (3D JPRG) with 60fps mostly. I don't have an eGPU yet, but if you want more power, you have that option. The only reason why I didn't give it a full 5-star is because the power brick that comes with it, it shorted out and fried the PC. I had dropped a controller on it and it must have jolted something sent a spike to the PC. The brick stopped working and other bricks I had wouldn't power the PC on. I bought it in June and knew I was outside the window of return. MinisForum doesn't make it easy to contact them, but I had stated my grievance on Reddit and emailed Support. A MinisForum rep messaged me on Reddit within a few hours to talk about getting an RMA and replacement after an evaluation. It did require me to pack everything back up including the RAM and original NVME, cables and such. Luckily, I had kept the box and was able to send it back, which they paid for shipping to them and to me for the replacement. The new PC is up again, but I'd recommend firing it up and updating Win11 before putting in another drive. I kept running into boot errors, but eventually did get it up and running.

Excellent mini PC for desktop use
I bought this mini PC to replace an aging i7 space 4790k HP PC that can no longer run Windows 11. I bought an external USB drive bay so all my drives are now accessible. It's very fast and works well. If you like RGB lights, the fan on top has them but they doesn't change but still look nice.

nice quick little box
this machine is quick i'll give it that. fast on wifi fast on ethernet processing power is great. upgradeability is awesome. the only complaint i have with it is in windows 11 the video is locked at 640x480. yes the drivers are installed yes even the monitor drivers are installed yes i've replaced the display cable. i've been in IT for 30 years. the display resolution is the only gripe i have with this machine. luckily, this machine is a dedicated server in the house. i remote into it every once in a while to update / restart the thing. i've also reloaded windows a few times too just to make sure i'm not doing something i shouldnt be doing or if i missed something.
