Works as advertised
My family and I are avid snorkelers. We snorkel in some pretty tough to get to places - this means to get there you have to walk over rocks, shells, sharp lava, rough reefs, etc. These are a Godsend. Put them on and walk to the water...they work, you don't trip. No more struggling putting fins on once you get in the water - these are already on your feet and you walked just fine across all kinds of sharp debris - unscathed, before getting in. They are very comfortable. Now, they are a bit too buoyant so you can't propel yourself as fast as regular fins - the solution to this is the frog kick and you move along just fine. If you need to swim fast for some reason turn over on your back and kick and you will move as fast as regular fins. Old style fins had become such a hassle for me when snorkeling that I completely stopped using them and instead wore reef shoes. I'd just use my arms more. But now that I have these, I'm back to using fins and really enjoying it. Finally, the velcro closure at the top of the ankle is pretty weak and comes loose pretty easily. When that happens, the fins take in water and the drag slows you a bit, so you just have to re-close the velcro. That's a bit of a hassle. Thus, the company should improve the ankle closure to make them more secure - they aren't at risk of coming off like regular fins do, but it's a bit annoying. Also, if they could do something to reduce the buoyancy so the fins would dig better in the water so a regular kick stroke could be used rather than a frog kick, that would be fantastic - these 2 changes would make these the perfect fins. I still give them 5 stars as they really have improved the snorkeling experience tremendously for my family and me and you really can walk in them.

Widhorn Outfitters Topside Hydro Fins - A Snorkelling Original!
I love snorkeling and have been snorkeling for years. I usually travel to the Caribbean each year, on vacation, to go snorkeling. During my last vacation, my wife and I ran into some fellow snorkelers who happened to be wearing these snorkeling masks, the likes of, we've never seen before. Apparently, the masks were known as 360-degree masks made by this company called "Wildhorn Outfitters." When I arrived back home from vacation, I immediately looked-up this company on the web with great interest in their products, and I signed-up to be on their mailing list.More recently, I received a email from Wildhorn Outfitters notifying me of these newly-invented "Wildhorn Topside Hydro Snorkel Fins" that were about to hit the market and watched a video on the Wildhorn Outfitters website about these new fins about to become available for purchase. I was intrigued and excited as soon as I learned of these fins and as soon as they became available for purchase, I didn't hesitate, and purchased a pair for me and a pair for my wife as soon as they hit the Amazon.com website.Well, as soon as they arrived, my wife and I tried them on and were blown-away with these fins. Folks, let me tell you, this company, Wildhorn Outfitters is on the forefront of innovation and design when it comes to snorkeling products. Many companies try to clone their ideas, so don't be fooled by cheap imitations of their products that other companies will try to pawn-off on you. My strong opinion would be to always buy from Wildhorn Outfitters rather than the imitators.OK, back to "about the fins"... these Wildhorn Topside Snorkel Fins, are a one-of-a-kind, super-useful, utilitarian and amazing pair of snorkeling fins - a hybrid part fin + part shoe, one can walk on... directly from your lounge chair, across-the-sand, and right into the water. "What a wonderful idea!" The fins are made for a sleek, secure, custom-fit that your feet will love. The three different color choices of fins are all beautifully designed; And, the fins are oh-so comfortable compared to traditional fins. Now the only disappointment that my wife and I experienced is that the original fins that I ordered for my wife and I, ran a bit smaller than expected so I immediately contacted Wildhorn Outfitters Customer Service via their website to inquire about doing an exchange for larger sizes.Their customer service is first-class/top-notch, and they responded back to me straight-away, emailed me a return shipping label, and made it as easy as possible to simply slap the return label on the box and drop-off the fins at a local FedEx office, wherein the original two pairs of fins were promptly shipped back to Wildhorn Outfitters at their expense - not mine. Wildhorn's customer service representative even communicated to me, that if I provided her the tracking number, she would personally watch for the fins to arrive back at their warehouse so she could immediately turn-around and send the new, larger-size fins to my wife and I.I am super-impressed with their customer support and it became blatantly apparent to me that this company will bend over backwards to take care of one's customer service needs. So let's re-cap... awesome, innovative, one-of-a-kind fins, the likes of with have never been seen before - three different beautiful color choices, made to fit like a comfortable glove on the feet, and ideal customer service in the event you should ever require it! The fins run perhaps a bit smaller than expected, so I do recommend to order a size-up from your regular shoe size for the best fin-fit.So about fin-size: I usually wear shoes that are 11 or 11.5, and I ended-up exchanging for the next size-up in these fins, size 12. My wife usually wears a 6-7.5 size in shoes, so that's the original fin-size I had ordered for her, and ended-up exchanging her fins, for one-size up, to a women's size 8. While I'm quite content with the "Sharkskin Electric" color fins that I ordered for myself, I had originally ordered the Pearl Aqua color for my wife, and she decided that she would rather have the Manta Ray color instead. So, not only did Wildhorn exchange our fins for the right size fins, but also they exchanged my wife's Pearl Aqua color fins for the Manta Ray color that my wife preferred.I cannot imagine anyone not being completely satisfied and happy becoming a owner of these fins and ultimately I highly recommend these fins. Oh, and don't forget to check-out their other products as well.I can assure you that if you are an avid snorkeler, these fins are the next step in fin innovation and offer a new and improved experience in snorkeling comfort, and usefulness. I now feel sorry for other snorkelers around me who are still using the old, antiquated traditional fins.

Walk with ease and bonus ankle protection.
So I purchased these for a trip to Hawaii where we would be walking on a lot of lava rock. These were amazing! I felt pretty cool being able to walk so smoothly and passing everyone who was sitting down trying to put there flippers on at the last minute. They are extremely easy to walk in, I mean like wearing shoes easy. Very compact, but I will say that they do not work as well as regular flippers underwater, that is why I gave them 4 stars. Obviously because they are more compact for easy travel, they are not as great underwater. So they are a give and take of pros and cons and you need to decide what things are more important for your own personal use. I absolutely loves the ease of walking and I really liked that the boot went above my ankle, they felt very well protected and they were extremely comfortable and did not rub anywhere, which is a huge bonus for me. Because the material is neoprene, they are soft on your skin, and being around lava rock and having your ankles covered, they were protected in a area where my ankles are likely to bang on a rock and get scratched. I am very pleased with my purchase and would highly recommend.
