Much easier wireless set-up than I'd feared
This HP LaserJet Pro M201DW printer is the first wireless printer I've used, and after I'd read reviews on various wireless printers saying how they were impossible or very difficult to set up to print wirelessly, I was somewhat nervous whilst waiting for this to arrive. I needn't have worried. The documentation that came with the printer showed little pictures of what was in the box, how to remove all the tape and packing on the printer, and how to attach the paper trays. Following the brief directions enclosed in the box, I chose to use the supplied USB cable for setting the printer up to recognise the Wi-Fi (using settings stored on the laptop), and it was soon connected to the router. Once done, the cable was no longer needed to get the laptops (one Windows 8.1 and one Windows 7) to talk and print to the printer. Pretty quick, pretty painless, and not a swear word uttered! One very silly thing I did do wrong, though, was not to load paper in the printer before setting it up - the test page disappeared into the ether when the paper was missing, so I had to re-do that bit of the set-up. Wherever I seem to have worked over many years, I always seem to have had an HP1102n printer to use, and I have never known any of them to go wrong - they've always been totally reliable and robust no matter how much use they have had. Hence, I chose this similar but better-featured model printer for home, in the hope that it proves to be as reliable and long-lasting as the "workhorses" I've used in the workplace. One bonus of this model is that it will automatically print double-sided, and will print an A5 booklet using the standard A4 sized paper - both features I often want but have never had on a home printer before, so I can now save paper, toner and storage space yet still have a hard copy of documents. Although it's only just arrived, so I haven't tried out many of its features yet, I love the fact that everything needed to get up and running was in the box (apart from paper to print on), that it was so easy to set up, and the print quality is every bit as good as I'd expected.

well worth the money.
I`ve given up on inkjet printers, they are a nightmare compared to this little box of tricks. My old inkjet would only print in black ? because i couldnt get a colour cart to work, and at £40 a throw, thats not funny, i did try refilling, but the hassle and faffing about was a step beyond stupid. ordering bottles of ink online, + refill kits etc, and the mess you could get was mindblowing. This little baby, one cartridge, which can be refilled? one hole in cart, one bottle of powder and a plug, job done, another 1000+ pages. very neat little thing, fitted on my shelf, no problem, very fast printing comparable to the old inkjet, if you can get away with black & white print, then this is the kit for you. My only real gripe is, HP do NOT include a usb cable in the box, so if you buy, get a cable while your at it, i got one here from amazon for £1.83 + free del. why HP cant include a cable baffles me, the cost to HP would be pence, and usb is pretty universal? thats why i only gave 4 stars, the actual printer is a brilliant bit of kit. by the way, my old inkjet was an HP. If your looking for a black and white printer, do yourself a favour, and buy one of these. you can get replacement carts online for about 40 quid, for around 1000 pages, thats pretty good value in y book.

OK printer, expensive toner!
As others have described this printer before me, I would just like to point out that the cheapest toner that one can get for this printer starts at around £50 and this seriously needs to be weighed in when buying the printer - my toner ran out of juice after printing a few hundred pages. All in all, the trend that printers are cheap, but cartridges cost as much seems to have entered the laser market (but has been common practice among inkjet manufacturers).

Great printer, fast, quiet and with a small footprint.
Fantastic printer. Quiet, small footprint, prints fast and double sided by default. There are two sizes of cartridges (83A and 83X, 1500 and 2200 pages respectively). I don't find the economode very legible but the fast res 1200 is great and doesn't use too much toner. Installation is a doddle with Windows 7: ignore the CD, download the driver directly from HP's website, run the file. Then turn on your printer (without connecting it to the computer). If using a printer cable (provided with the machine, in fact, but beware because it's quite short), plug the printer into a USB socket on your computer. The driver will be installed automatically. Go to 'control panel', 'printers and devices' and you'll see the printer. You can right click from there. For wireless printing: click the right arrow on the little screen on the printer until you see 'Network services', then OK. Then the right arrow until you see 'wireless on/off'. Click OK, then 'on', then OK. Then click the right arrow to 'protected WPS', click OK, then 'pushbutton', then OK. the wifi sign will flash blue. Connect to your router from your browser and press the virtual WPS button (or go to your router and press the physical WPS button). Go back to the printer and press OK to accept the connection (it will flash: connection ready). that's it. The wifi sign is now solid blue. Print out a configuration page (press the right arrow until you have 'reports', then OK, then 'configuration page', then OK. You'll have the IP address there. Enter that in your browser and you'll be connected directly to your printer if you want to change settings etc. To enable other wireless devices to use the printer, go to 'control panel'/printers and devices/add a printer/Wireless printer. Select your new printer from the list and click next. All the rest will be done automatically.

Want a good basic laser printer? Look no further....
I needed a replacement for my old workhorse HP Laserjet 6L, and despite wasting time and money on certain "other" brands of inkjet (cartidge lifetime/replacement cost?!) printers, I've gone back to a basic black & white printer that is compact, does all I need of a printer (if I need colour, I'll get it at work as that's the only place I really do require it), works straight from the box, and seems to have excellent online backup. My only quibble - the shock of finding out what a replacement toner cartridge is, but hopefully that's some way away yet. Don't waste time, money and resources printin out multiple copies of documents/charts, be prepared to edit on-screen or just press F7 to spellcheck; and if you need colour prints, fine, go for something else - but this is excellent value for the money for me.

Good size and Easy to use
Reasonably priced and very easy to set up. However, the pages print with a slight curve, as though the printer is misshaping the page as it goes through the feed. Not sure if I received a faulty model, but a bit annoying.

HP LAserjet 4L - come back - all is forgiven
My HP Laserjet 4L was purchased in 1992 and printed its way without a hiccup at least 4 times around the planet. Not very fast, but oh so reliable and silent. It was replaced because its plug (or the PMICA card) is out of sink with my laptop and/or the latest XP version. And then it started to produce pages that were dark grey on the left hand side over the full length of the page. Possibly because for once, I bought a non HP toner cartridge? Or has the time come for a new machine? Exit: PH Laserjet 4L. Enter: The HP P1102. Pro: fast, plug and play actually works, neat print quality. Cons: noisy!, tends to pick up several sheets at the same time, after printing the sheets come out curly, manual duplex printing does not work at all and neither does the setting for draft print - so that is a waste of ink. Conclusion: I would not recommend this machine.

Must be the best laser printer out there for the price!
Ordered on Saturday and delivered on Monday. Installation was easy. My mac installed the required drivers and wireless connection to my broadband network was straightforward. Note that you must use 2.4G 11n. Construction of the printer could be more robust, but operation gives very good and clear results. The duplex printing feature saves paper, and the Utilities feature allows for use of less toner if running cost is important. Start from 'off' takes time while the wireless connection gets going, but for home use the print speed is more than adequate. I like the ability to control how long the printer will stay on standby and switch off. For me the most impressive aspect of this printer is the firmware, which installs and works without any problems.
