I don't see why you can't, but we have been using the 5lb propane tanks..

you will need an adapter to convert pipe thread to a garden hose. This can be obtained at most hardware stores.

Yes you can, it was very simple to hook up. We are happy with this product. We have 5 people showering daily. We have 5 gallon propane bottle hooked up and it last over a month. Water temperature is perfect.
