I love chess. I'm good at chess. I can't find people around me that like chess and offer a meaningful challenge. Enter Chessup 2. I can't connect it seamlessly to my Chess.com account and play bots, practice, and play whenever I want. Even without the Chess.com interpretation, the board has built in AI opponents that challenge me and make the experience fun and engaging. It's large enough to be comfortable to play in, but compact enough that it fits in my laptop backpack and I can take it places if I want. It's not designed for travel, but for camping of vacation, I imagine it would travel well enough. It feels solid, but is light weight. The pieces have some decent weight, but are not as heavy as other premium pieces. A small compromise, and in my opinion, worth it. They have a nice clank and do not sound or feel cheap. The integration of the LEDs in the board and the individual settings for two player, means my daughter can get hints while I get only legal moves, showing her how to best place pieces and she's learning to strategize. Myself, as a more experienced player, find the CPU challenging enough to be engaging and fun. I have also improved using this board. By This is the best "toy" I've purchased in a while. I find it to be well built and it works as advertised, with setup only taking a couple minutes. Now, it's turn it on and it connects. I have been playing other people o er the board too and I'm never without an engaging opponent. Worth it, if you enjoy chess, no questions about it.

This Chessup electronic smart game board is a useful teaching instrument that helps people learn chess in a fun and dynamic way. I am a chess motivator and teacher for our private school’s chess club and have found that my students benefit from the visual light-up square features that the chessboard offers to beginners as well as intermediate players to be extremely useful and engaging. The only downside of this board that I can see is the inability to take back accidental error moves once the computer thinks a player has made a move, which is unfortunate if someone drops a piece by accident, which happens more often than not because the pieces are not much weighted and tend to be on the slippery side. If taking back moves without the Chessup app is a possibility then I do not know of it, and if that is the case then it is not yet self-intuitive (I legit could not fix the accidents that my students made, like castling while leading with the rook). In one instance my student reported that he had mistakenly put the King and Queen on the wrong squares and found this out because his AI opponent’s King was able to travel across the board. Apparently the game itself cannot tell which pieces are which; it only can detect if there is indeed a piece present on that square and keeps track of what that piece is supposed to be from the start of the game. Software updates and the ability to link up with popular chess websites like Lichess and Chess.com are a welcomed addition. Overall, I found the AI opponents and hints add both extra challenges and additional confidence to each game that typical over-the-board games lack, while still offering an in-person physical feel without the typical eye-strain from constantly staring at a monitor or tablet touch screen. With the visual hint assistance (Green moves for best moves, Blue for good moves, and Red for bad moves) to help people new to the game enjoy it where they would likely never even have tried in the first place, it is sure to paint a positive experience with the “wow-factor” that comes from the initial colorful visual appeal. This is a unique example of how new cutting edge technology can still be practical and can be used to heighten an old game’s overall experience. I am sure that we can all agree that such methods are needed to cultivate new ideas and bring about more awareness through exposure in order to improve the hobby.

Great product! Definitely 5 stars. I like playing on chess dot com. That’s why I got it. Playing the ChessUp robots with help on is a great training tool.

I’m teaching my 6 yr old granddaughter how to play chess. This is the ideal board for everyone from novice to experienced players. Easy to use; easy to learn.

STOP!!! If you found this chess set and you are worried about the price relax. This is a quality product, and settling for less gets you just that. Its not a work of art but it does work well. Only a few cautious notes. Its a real effort to get it hooked into your wifi and set through chess.com and the chessup app on your phone. You will probably be at it for a while. Especially with the clunky user interface on the screen. Have faith. You can do it. When you're done the worst is over. I was upset to have my order come packaged in a larger Amazon box but no packing material to keep it from banging around inside. This is a delicate and costly mechanism and should be shipped with better care. I was lucky and it worked perfectly out of the box. Looks good. Feels good. Works good. Great for chess enthusiasts.

I love playing chess on the Chess.com app on my phone. I just got ChessUp 2 and it is exactly what I was hoping for and more. It lets me play other people through the internet with a real board

My son absolutely loves this chessboard! There are a few pros and cons to it starting off with the pros would be that it has a great blasting battery life and that it is simple to set up and use. The bill quality definitely seems like it is sturdy and that the company has put effort to make sure they have a quality product the chess pieces stay in place well but of course are not super strong. The way of the board is medium. I would enjoy it to be a little more lightweight, but understand that the build and technology might add some of the weight.

Bought it for my son, he loves it, so it was worth it.
