Q: Sorry for the dumb question, but i have a tikka t3 that measures 43". is there any drawback to getting the 51" bag just to make sure it fits?

The only drawback would be, inside the case there's two pockets on each end of the bag. Your butt stock will slide into one end and the front barrel will slide into the other. You do have your velcro straps that holds your rifle, but I do like the pockets on each end. Just measure out your rifle and get the right case.

Q: Would a 35" mossberg 12g and a 33" ar-type fit together comfortably in the 36" case? or should i size-up to 42" to accommodate for any mass/thickness?

They definitely won’t fit in the 36 or the 42. I have the 5.11 tactical 42” double rifle case, and my Mossberg 12g and S&W AR-15 didn’t fit. So, I purchased Savior’s 46” and they fit like a glove. I was able to fit my Springfield XD 9mm pistol and extra mags as well. If you see my review you can see how all 3 fit in the 46.

since ARs come in a zillion different lengths it depends on the length of your particular ar.

Q: How much does this bag weigh empty?

Not much seems less then a pound. Carried 2 rifles 300 rounds plus 15 mags. Seems sturdy so far
