Q: how can it be used for moist therapy

Get a damp towel and lay it where you want it and then lay the heating pad over top. Relax.

Q: Is the heating element in the neck?

Yes, but just in the center section, not all the way to the sides. Would be nice if it wrapped all the way around, but still you do feel the heat in your neck, and overall I absolutely love this thing. Gets very warm, which is the highlight for me.

Q: Love the pad. However, after about 9 months controller quit working which is detachable. Why not replaceable?

I wondered that too. My dog ate my cord! :(
