Loosen bumper bolts as far as possible or remove bumper prior to installation.
Bought this for a 2008 Tacoma four-wheel-drive. It was a very tight fit, but was able to get it installed with a little help of a persuader hammer. The bolts that go up into the frame is a little tricky due to the angle of one you have to use a short socket and ratchet and there’s not much room there. Overall seems like a great hitch. We’ll see when I put it to work. It’s nicely powder coated and has hardware included. I had to soak my bumper bolts with PB blaster the day before and the one that is farthest away is a tight fit, but the bolts that remain in to hold the bumper on need to be screwed out as far as possible to make it easier to install. It may be just as easy to take the whole bumper off to begin with.

Great product
Fit perfect. Installed it by myself. All holes fit the factory holes in the frame.

Quality & function
This is a very nice hitch kit. I am 78 years of age and my son and I installed this hitch with little trouble on a Tacoma 2010 vehicle. I do recommend removing the bumper and soaking the bolts you have to remove well in advance of installation. The installation goes much easier if two people do it, I don't care if you are 18 or 80. I highly recommend this hitch for the quality, fit and finish.

Curt tow hitch
This hitch fit my 2007 Toyota Tacoma single cab 2WD perfect and has been used to tow many things from a jon boat, to an 6’X8’ and 6.5’X12’ trailer. It to this day has all of the paint, (roughly 6-7 years) I’m happy with Curt’s quality a recently bought another curt tow hitch for another vehicle.

Important mounting instructions
Their installation video states the rear bumper doors not need to be removed to install the receiver hitch. That should be true in theory.I installed this hitch by myself by strapping it to a floor jack with ratchet straps. I then wheeled it directly beneath where it was to be installed and began raising the jack, but it would not fit. I wrestled it for about an hour and became frustrated and was ready to return it.After calming my temper, I thought I should remove the bumper first since half of the bolts were already removed and that made things so much easier. The hitch raised onto the frame beautifully, but needed to be pushed in about an inch, which was accomplished with a mon-marring plastic sledge.Apparently, the frame slightly tapers inward towards the bumper, and is a snug fit at its final mounting location - that's why I couldn't get it onto the frame with the bumper still on.I really like the quality of the hitch and the price nice as well. I assume the poor rating is due to the instructions stating the rear bumper can stay on during installation. Maybe it can stay on, but it didn't work for me. They should add a note that it is much easier without the bumper.

Bracket/s may bend in transit -- easy fix
Glad I checked these reviews before contacting Curt Mfg. I tried and tried to make the receiver brackets span the frame rails, but it looked like they were almost an inch too close together. After checking reviews, I took a straight edge and there's the problem (see pic). So I took a couple of 2x4s, placed my jack between them, and stretched the crooked bracket back to 90 degrees. It then fit like it should.I couldn't find torque specs for the bolts on my Tacoma. The installation sheet said one for 10mm and one for 12mm, neither which apply. The OEM bolts are 17mm, and the bolts included from Curt are 19mm. I followed others' recommendations and used 86 ft/lbs on the 4 @ 19mm bolts and 6 @ 17mm bolts connecting the bumper bracket to the frame (OMG, what a workout!). I then used 48 ft/lbs for the remaining 4 @ 17mm bolts that connect the bumper to the bracket. Before tightening down the last 4 bolts @ 48 ft/lbs, I had to lower my spare tire. Not enough room to fit the torque wrench otherwise. I also used jacks to make sure the rear bumper was aligned parallel to the tailgate and taillights. Funny, the eTrailer install video for this receiver on the 2014 Tacoma shows an "after" shot of the rear, and the bumper is definitely sagging on the driver's side. My OCD wouldn't be able to leave me alone if that happened to my truck! The top of the receiver hitch to the garage floor is 18" with myself in the driver seat and about 100 lbs in the backseat and bed. That means I'm in the vicinity of needing a 4" drop hitch for the trailer I'm thinking of at HD with a 13" coupler-to-floor measurement.
