Philip's Learn ALL the Notes on the Guitar Flash Cards

Extremely Helpful
After a 50 year hiatus I decided to pick up a guitar again after retiring. If you want to learn guitar the right way these cards are invaluable. If you just want to bang out a few riffs and not worry about being able to actually read music watch you tube. These cards give you a good foundation to learn the notes as shown on sheet music as well as on your fretboard. A must for serious musicians that are willing to put in the time and work to be a better musician.

Very systematic approach to learning all the notes on the guitar
Got these cards and have been using them for a few weeks now and I am seeing great results in memorizing notes. A little background, I have been playing guitar for around 16 years, and I thought I didn't need to learn sight reading because I was very good at playing by ear. I was wrong however, on further self evaluation, my music is very inconsistent and I played everything with feel and by ear, but had very little accuracy. In other words I can play the same song twice and they differ from each other drastically. I realized I hit a platue and I knew the only way to get better was to face my fears and learn how to sight read. After trying out many different books, I finally realized I learn best with flash cards. Then after finding out how tedious it would be to make neat, accurate, readable flash cards myself, I broke down and purchased these cards. These cards are fantastic, they are already in order when you take them out from the box which helps get familiar with note placement quickly. I took the authors suggestion by learning the open strings first, then the 1-4, ect. The author of the cards, Phillip is also a very nice guy, I exchanged emails with him and he was very helpful in answering all my questions. All in all , this is this is the best way to learn the notes on the fretboard. I have not completely memorized all the cards yet, but I did pull up some random sheet music just to see if I could play only by sight reading. And to my surprise I can, although I'm a bit slow at the moment, at least I know it is possible now. Thanks again Phillip!

Tremendous learning tool!
I haven't used these cards exactly as Philip Glaser instructs, but the beauty is that these cards can be used in many ways. They are terrific. In my case I have decades of experience playing woodwinds and brass. I don't need simple music theory or note-name flash cards (although these cards could easily and effectively used to learn note names). Most flash cards have a combination fretboard and beginners theory - a waste for me.As a newbie to a fretboard, I learned reasonably quickly to find any note anywhere. I just couldn't do it fast enough to make it useful as a player. Repetition would remedy that, but like so many people I am impatient. I needed a little support in speeding up the response time between seeing a note, and my brain sending my fingers to the note - any position, any time. These cards are doing the trick, and in even in the first 48 hours made a significant difference for me. They are not a silver bullet but a tool in the learning arsenal.I have used these cards is AWAY from the instrument. I use them for mental practice (see http://www.bulletproofmusician.com/does-mental-practice-work/) Using these cards has cemented my knowledge, With even brief use the difficulties translating knowledge of where the notes are and the automatic response of my fingers, has begun to vaporize. These cards are well worth the money and effort.

Very Nice Learning Tool
This is a nice set of Flash Cards to help learn the guitar fret board. It is good that the cards are divided into groups.. Open strings through Fret 4. Fret 5 through 8. Fret 9 through 12. The user can also further divide the groups by strings. For example the absolute beginner can make a group of cards that cover only the natural notes of E, F and G on the high E string and combine with B, C, D of the second string. Once they are totally comfortable with those six notes and are ready for the G string...then add the G and A. Later, add D, E, F etc. Breaking down a daunting task of memorizing ALL notes on the guitar fingerboard to small bite sized chunks makes sense. The flash cards can be used as a game for smaller children or as a self teaching learning tool by adult learner. I am using them with my students and recommend they purchase a set of their own.

I would not buy this product again, however they ...
The study material is excellent on these cards and they are exactly what a person studying guitar needs to have at hand when away from home. I am using them when we go shopping, and oftentimes just keep them in the car with me. These cards make possible having something that fits in your pocket available to study at every opportunity; they fit in your jeans pocket or purse. For the value of study material, these are exactly what a student needs while on the go.I would probably buy this product again, however they are "light card stock" flash cards, not the quality of a deck of playing cards. Be careful with them as they may wear. I was expecting a product similar in quality to a deck of playing cards. This is an updated review.

Smart
Using these to help my 11y.o. daughter learn treble clef. She plays cello. Took one small piece. Scale in mi menor, made her find all the card notes that correspond to this scale. Then put them in melodic order. The next time, we shuffled the deck to race and put them back in order by position. Yikes! That was a a bit of work even for me. This is priceless! Don’t hesitate to purchase.
