Excellent value for the price
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. The sound is better than more expensive ones I own. The shortwave is a bonus. It has so many great features, especially in case of loss of power. I highly recommend it.

Very nice - lots of capabilities
Have played with this a couple days now, lots of menu items to learn. Like the vast capabilities like WX/Alerts/SW/FM/AM & Metered bands. Touch button access, easy to use. Only knock is the volume, distorts as it's turned way up. A wired speaker will work if one wanted to.

Kaito Voyager Pro KA600 Emergecy Radio
First let me say that I am no expert with emergency radio features. This is my first radio with cranks and solar panels, and the first portable in many years. I bought the radio to have a battery operated portable. I decided to include emergency features to have and to learn. Further, I have no other similar radio to compare tuning, reception, charging etc performance, so my value in this review is limited. I will give you what I have experienced so far after about a month with it.It receives am, fm and wb in Springfield MO acceptably well (remember - nothing else to compare to). I have not tried long or short wave yet (forgot all about it until now). I have had the alarm feature turn the radio on in the night during a weather alert (I was expecting heavy thunderstorms) so that worked. A swiveling antenna instead of fixed up/down would've been nice, and an external connector would've been nice for use in the house in power failures. The crank does work but I have no idea how well it will charge things. I cranked with the radio playing and could tell nothing. After letting the radio run down on the internal battery so that reception had gone almost out, I could crank and get normal reception while cranking, and then it would go back to bad almost as soon as I stopped. At least it would give me the ability to hear emergency information if necessary, I would just have to keep cranking if the batteries were dead. The solar also works. In bright sunlight it will play the radio with the internal battery dead. Turn the radio off and it will charge the internal battery although I have not done careful timing on any of the charging/discharging cycle times because both take hours and I am not that diligent and patient. I have also charged the radio from total discharge from a pc/usb connection. I tried charging my cell phone from the radio but my phone was beeping and herking/jerking, and given the radios manual said some phones are incompatible, I concluded my old flip phone was one of those and gave that up before I damaged one or the other or both. The black model I have has a textured finish (I ordered black and got black textured so they probably all are), like a non-slip tool. It is good for non-slip, but also will make the radio harder to keep clean looking from dirt and grease smudges etc. The manual is a bit hard to understand. It is pretty obvious that the manf wrote the manual in Chinese, then had someone translate to English word for word, which does not account for the different ways they say things. You have to interpret. I found no glaring errors. The programming and tuning features, buttons, lights, alarms, etc all did as advertised. A lot packaged in something that size, but it would be nice to have some comparable units to try. I do not.I'd like to add that it would've been very nice to have had the SAME weather alert feature in addition to the NOAA alert feature. To test the alert feature, I set the radio next to my bed with the alert feature turned on, expecting possibly heavy storms in the area. Sure enough, about 2am it came on and woke me up. It was a thunderstorm warning not even close to my area, and going away. With SAME I could program it to just alert on tornado warnings, and in my county, which would greatly cut down on getting startled wake ups unnecessarily. Maybe a future addition to the model?

The best emergency radio full feature set
I was browsing on Amazon forever to find a nifty little radio I don't know anything about long wave or short wave but this radio is packed with tons of featuresThe best one being a line in and you can use it as a wired speaker for your phone and the speaker the radio comes with is high quality which surprised me because I always buy radios like this at Fred Meyer or Walmart

DO NOT BUY THIS RADIO! SAVE YOUR MONEY!
I live on the Gulf Coast. Tropical Storms and Hurricanes are SERIOUS, LIFE THREATENING SITUATIONS for me and my family. It is IMPERATIVE that I have a Weather Radio for these types of emergency situations, along with many other items and supplies. I do not take this lightly. I live EXACTLY ONE BLOCK FROM THE GULF OF MEXICO. A reliable weather radio can mean the difference in life or death for us.I, obviously, purchased this item for Emergency situations. I purchased this on August 26, 2017. My friend has one exactly like it and her's works great. I did my research on several of the Kaito Radios before deciding to go with this one. This was going to be my VERY FIRST "expensive" weather radio. I am familiar with the one my friend owns, it works very well and I was impressed by its many functions. I decided to go with this one out of all the Kaito radios.I received my radio a few days after purchasing it. It appeared to be in perfect, brand new, condition. The box was not damaged in any way. I also purchased the additional set of accessories to go with it (back up batteries, AC Adapter and Antenna Extension). I was happy to have it all arrive quickly and without any issues. I opened the box to look at the radio and visually examined it for any flaws, imperfections or damages. It looked great. I pushed it right back into the box just exactly as it was before I pulled it out of the box. I immediately took the radio (still in the box) along with the extra accessories I purchased and put them on my shelf with my other Emergency Supplies for my family. The weather radio I owned prior to this is very small and inexpensive. At the time I purchased the small weather radio it was all I could afford. I was very proud of myself for making a responsible purchase of such a nice Emergency Weather Radio for my family with this Kaito.Fast forward to TODAY - October 6, 2017. My brand new weather radio has been sitting right there on my shelf inside its box keeping it dust free and ready to go in case of an emergency. AN EMERGENCY IS ON IT'S WAY! A hurricane. All hurricane season I've have hoped I wouldn't need my new weather radio, but was glad I had it just in case.Today I completely removed it from the box, began reading my instructions, getting it ready to set up before we lose power tomorrow evening. I'm doing what people on the Gulf Coast do - preparing, being ready, taking care of business to protect my family - MY DAUGHTERS' LIVES. I'm being responsible by getting out my weather radio before it's too late to learn all of its functions and features, etc. All seems well until I actually TURN IT ON. I CANNOT SEE THE DISPLAY. The display tells you what station you are on. The number of the station. The display tells you everything. Not my display! My display only shows the very top of the numbers or letters. The bottom of the letters or numbers is BLANK. I cannot preset stations. I don't even know what station I am on. I cannot set the time. I'm beyond frustrated by this! Everything sounds staticky. Nothing sounds clear as it should. I thoroughly researched this weather radio. I spent a good bit of money (for me and my family anyway) on this weather radio for EMERGENCY SITUATIONS and IT'S VIRTUALLY USELESS TO ME.If you've never experienced a hurricane maybe you can't understand the stress involved when you finally hear the words that this one is coming for you, your family and your home, everything you hold dear to your heart, everything you have and everything you own. The stress of getting everything in order, strapped down, sand bags, packing only very important things up in case you have to leave your home and maybe never be able to come back home to it... you just cannot understand the stress, frustration and helplessness. All you can do is what you can do to prepare. My husband JUST ASKED ME earlier today if I ever purchased the new weather radio. I happily let him know that I had done so. It was taken care of. Now this is useless to me. I've wasted $100 on this when I could have had another one that would have worked when it was time for AN EMERGENCY like a huge storm surge coming to possibly swallow up your home. I've also wasted about $30 on accessories for this radio. So there goes about $130 thrown away.I'm so disappointed in this purchase.... BEYOND DISAPPOINTED. I cannot even use the words I want to use to describe EXACTLY how I feel about this. I can honestly say in every purchase I have EVER made on Amazon I am the MOST disappointed by this one. THIS PURCHASE WAS MORE THAN JUST IMPORTANT IT WAS/IS VITAL.Now my family will huddle around our old, tiny, cheap weather radio we already owned instead of having a nice, reliable one to let us know what is going on out there when we lose power... and we WILL lose power. We've already been warned to plan on being on our own for at minimum 72 hours WITHOUT ELECTRICITY.My family needed this NOW. Not later but now. Right now.I cannot and will not recommend this Weather radio to anyone ever. Unfortunately, I will have to make do with the old radio and hopefully be able to purchase a better weather radio after this storm.
