Must-have product
Worth buying. While it's not bright enough to light an entire room, it's a very useful lamp during unexpected power cuts. It's also easy to maintain: after use, just place the lamp at a window with the solar panel facing the sunlight.

Compact but Not that Luminous
It’s doesn’t produce that much light, completely compact but charging ability is great, it can get charged through solar as well as cable , though cable is not included. Overall in this price range if you want something that can just show some light then yes you can go for it.

Please read update at the bottom of this review. This light is smaller than I imagined. It is 16cm high with the rotating circle fixed at highest. The metal stand cannot be removed but you can rotate the light and place the stand in a suitcase with the light flat. It won't take much room - as a light it is more useful than the torch I usually pack and if you could safely leave it in your room somewhere to catch the sun's rays during the day while you were out - great for lighting a strange bedroom without walking anyone else. Just remember where the on/off switch is. I am a bit niggled because the USB cable is only 35cm / 14" long another 15cm would have made a lot of difference. The cable has a RED coloured USB plug at one end and a little plug - same as the one on the charger for my Nokia phone - the teeny size. I think I'll take a short USB extension with the light when travelling. I bought two of the lights and found one already had some charge in it and the other didn't. The one that had charge in it I plugged into my laptop using the USB cable. A red light came on which I assume means it is charging or does it mean the light is connected to a power source. The red light is still ON some hours after I plugged the light into my laptop. The light when switched on is a bit brighter than when it arrived which I would expect - but when will I know when it is fully charged ? The leaflet/card that came with it tells you very little. The switch a white push for on and push for off rectangle is situated under the solar cells just above the little red diode light and the socket for the cable. By the way you can have the light ON when it is plugged into a USB socket thus using and charging at the same time. Being early March and no much sunlight I am not sure how much charge the other light has received or whether it will in fact light up. Will be back tomorrow to add the overnight findings to this review. UPDATE - Well it is 10.30 am. and the first light which has been ON and unconnected to electric power since 3.00 am. so that is seven and a half hours and it is though not bright as at first it is enough to see your way clear across a bedroom floor. The second light lit brightly at 3.00 am. having had only dull daylight I then put that light on USB charge and it has now has a good light. Neither little red light went out while either of the lights were "ON CHARGE" so I have no idea how much charge the lights have absorbed. By the way, whilst the unplugged second light was near my laptop screen its red light came on. So there it is - seven and a half hours and still shining. I am well pleased. Edit - May 2015 Took it on holiday with me. It was half charged. Left it on the pull-cover which covered our belongings in the back of the car as it is so light in weight and by the time we got to Butlins in Skegness it was fully charged by the sunlight. Never needed the charging cable while away. Just popped it on the apartment's windowsill while away for a top up as I needed it at night to find my way to the bathroom to save switching on the large lights. Great as an additional light to read my Kindle ereader by in bed. Very glad I bought 2 of them. Never thought about it but it would be a great light to have in dashboard cubbyhole for added light in the car - just leave it in the sunlight e ery so often.

This is a welcome addition to my camping gear. Pros: - Very light and much more convenient to carry around than other lanterns of comparable size. - Worked for hours every night for a week straight and was easy to recharge. I just used a carabiner to clip it onto the outside of my tent each morning. I really enjoy not having to worry about lugging around extra batteries during camping trips. - I usually worry about losing track of all my different cords for my different devices, but for this lantern, I just stuck the cord inside of the cup-like bottom portion of the lantern. This did not seem to affect how well the lantern lit up its surroundings in any way and I never have to wonder where the heck I put the cord. - Perfect for lighting up a 2 person tent or setting down on a small table between two camp chairs. This lantern is not as bright as other battery powered lanterns, but I see this as a plus. While out camping, I do want to see my immediate surroundings, but I don't want a glaring light destroying my night vision and making it hard to see the stars above or the trees around me. Plus, since the bulb is actually up against the top portion of the lantern and mostly hidden from direct view, I'm not blinded each time I happen to face it. Also, I don't like having a really bright light on constantly, especially when there are people in neighboring campsites. I feel that having a blazing white electric beacon kind of destroys the night time forest ambiance. That's the kind of thing we go camping to escape, right? Besides, when I need to see something more clearly, I can just pull out my flashlight. Cons: - Although the light weight of this lantern makes it easy to carry around and hang up, it does mean that it is very easy to knock over if set on a table or on the ground. I suppose it being top heavy doesn't help. I don't see this being a problem if used in the home. But when out camping on uneven ground where level surfaces are pretty much nonexistent, I found myself having to often pick it up and stand it up straight again. But really, the pros outweigh this little con.

I’ve been using these products for years! Just reliable. Keep them in a place where they stayed charged for when you least expect you will need them! Power outages! I have several after living in a remote area of Australia where outages were frequent and for many hours. Aim it at the ceiling and you have decent illumination. Small, light and thus great for camping and portaging. I’ve had mine for over 10 years now and they still work! Get three!
