Great project for my grandkids
Very good value My grandson's really liked it we had a lot of fun and still are enjoying it. The age all depends on how engaged you are with the child you should supervise him with these anyway If a 2-year-old can really enjoy it then I think most children will as well.

Gift for grandson but he liked it and will do some here.
A bit noisy but that’s expected. It was exciting for an 11 - 12 year old grandchild to use with us on his visits. Next he’s going metal detecting in the pathways where Sherman’s army marched through his family land. You take advantage of what islocally available. Fortunately he lives in a veryhistorical area. It’s great.

Use Aluminum Oxide for step 4 instead
I did a couple of batches with the grit that came with these rocks and although the rocks came out smooth they did not come out shiny. I even used some mineral oil (baby oil) but no luck. So for step 4 I used Aluminum Oxide from another kit and it made all the difference. The rocks on the left were done with the original grit provided and the rocks on the right were done with Aluminum Oxide as step 4. Hopefully you can see that the rocks on the right still have that "wet look" and reflect the light and my amethyst is clearer, where those on the left have a matte finish.

It ROCKS!
I never tumbled rocks in my life so I purchased a tumbler. I just picked up rocks and pebbles from my land and started tumbling. Some came out cool and fun looking, some were just gravel. So I purchased this refill, all the stones/gems are super cool. Anything from Hematite to Jasper to Rose quartz. Kit contains 3-1 lbs bags of assorted stones/gems plus each of the four tumbling grits. It has an identification booklet and concise instructions. Pretty easy to follow...1 bag of rocks and 1 packet of grit...2 bags of rocks and 2 bags of grit and so on. The stones were all cool rough but can't wait for them to be polished. This kit will work on any tumbler no matter the brand.
