No it isn't the same as Miso Paste. While both are very similar, there are some differences that should be considered. Miso tends to be smoother, with a milder flavor profile. This product has a bolder flavor, and grainy mouth-feel. Depending on what you're trying to make this product could be used in place of miso. Both are delicious, however subjectively I tend to prefer Daengjang over Miso.

Yes. I received my order Jan. 23 and the expiration date is 11-1-2018.More than enough time to use up.

Q: What is the heat level of this product?

This particular product has no red pepper in it so it has no heat it is fermented soy bean paste much like miso.

It's used however Korean bbq meat dipping sauce uses a number of ingredients. Doenjang (soy bean paste) is just one of them. You can find varieties of dipping sauce recipes online.

So good and earthy.

Having a family with multiple allergies dairy/wheat protein, we tend to gravitate towards East Asian cuisine. We've been cooking with gochugaru and gochujang forever and this along with Ssamjang were the next natural expansions. I used it to make some amazing Bossam (boiled pork belly) along with 'Ssam sauce' from Momofuku's recipe in the NYT. So, so good. A new family favorite.

This is addictive. Savory and funky

Mixed with butter on noodles and rice is amazing. Mixed with mayonnaise for a dip and sandwiches equally good. I'm crazy about this stuff

color and saltiness were little light

This doenjang is okay. i was expecting something little darker and saltier. Since I am Korean, I though I know what what to expect. but this is lighter in color and also lighter in saltiness. When I saw the review pictures, it looked like what I was expecting. However, it wasn't. that is only one reason I took out 1 star. but it was decent taste but next time i might search for darker version.
