Great Watch
I did a lot a research before buying the Huawei watch GT, with a lot of deciding to buy either the Huawei Watch 2 or the GT. (I didn't specifically go for Huawei but you do seem to get a lot for your money with the brand). Most other brands were quickly pushed aside because of their battery life - after all do you really want to be charging the thing every night or less as is the case with the Samsung (ignoring company battery claims and looking at user reviews etc). So I chose the GT because of two factors, the main one being the dimensions - it is quite thin, only as thick as a decent kinetic mechanical watch) and not that large a unit in general - I am a medium built male and it fits fine and slips under a sleeve with no problems. The second factor was the battery life, I can definitely say that it is good, I charged it on 25 December (I've had it a while before Christmas) and today the 29th December it is on 77% battery having been worn constantly in that time. The battery lasts me about 3 weeks under normal use and I'm pretty sure it would go for nearly 4 weeks if I didn't keep messing with it. If you put GPS on constantly then it'll use a fair bit more juice but this mode turns off when you come out of a workout mode (all adjustable in the android app on your phone). The screen quality is good, easy to read and it illuminates for around 5 seconds when it senses your arm lift to a 'look' type position, this time can be increased to 5 minutes per 'look' action but the screen can not be set to constantly on. The step counter, heart rate and sleep monitor works all the time with no way to disable it - the battery life is not effected by these being used all the time - it seems that only using the GPS functions will effect the life of the battery. Watch faces are ok, its a shame there wasn't more on offer but what is available are good quality and look nice enough with plenty of information on display. Messages and notifications are displayed with a swipe up on the watch screen and are readably but not answerable. Which app is allowed to send notifications is selectable from the Huawei Health app. A lot of people complain about the weather function not working - this is because you have to set your phone to use a default weather widget that is displayed on your phone home screen (such as accu-weather etc), as long as your phone is set to display a weather widget and the option is turned on in Huawei Health (the watches control app) then the weather will display and update just fine. The watch is comfy to wear and the strap can be changed to any standard 22mm strap. The standard silicon strap is good quality with great flexibility and feels like it'll last for quite a while. All in all the watch is comfy to wear and is slim enough that it'll slide under a shirt or sleeve without you really noticing it, and it is actually fine to sleep in and hardly causes you to notice that it is being worn. (I turn mine to 'Do Not Disturb' and 'Key Lock' so that the screen doesn't light up if you twist your arm and you can't accidentally activate it if you touch it). The Huawei app is quite good (Huawei Health) though saying this I haven't been able to compare it to anything else as this is my first 'proper' heath/smart watch. The app displays heart beat history, sleep information such as time spent REM, deep, resting or awake as well as steps, distance travelled, map of journey travelled (can be disabled), weight, calories used, oxygen absorption and many other interesting information that the watch gathers while you wear it. The app doesn't seem to effect my phones battery life and the watch syncs easily without issue (unlike some FitBit watches that my partner uses where syncing is always an issue). Ultimately I had to decide on if to go with Android Wear 2 or Huawei's own OS that gives a massive boost to battery life. I thought a lot and hard about this and decided that if I wanted to view a map - i'd likely do this on my phone, if I wanted to make a call - i'd likely do it on my phone and if I wanted to type an email or message - yeap, its going to be on my phone as the screen is larger and far better for these tasks than a small watch screen. In my opinion being able to view a map on your wrist etc is a bit gimmicky rather than being of real world use - that's what I have a smart phone with a larger screen after all and not a Nokia 6200. So to sum up my review: Would I buy this watch again: YES CERTAINLY Would I recommend it to some one else: YES Do I actually like using the watch: YES, its easy to use and navigate through the menus. Is it comfy to wear: YES Is the battery life good: YES, BRILLIANT IN THIS RESPECT What do I dislike about it: The outside bezel is high quality but ultimately it is useless as it doesn't do anything and is of no use at all. (but it is vary narrow and you won't notice it after a few uses) Thumbs up from me on this one.

Why buy any other watch!
Great watch, highly recommended. Of all the watches I have used this one is head and shoulders above the rest. Battery life is very good, not two weeks but getting on for a week. The monitoring of events is particularly good, for example when playing badminton I can see heart rate warning bands really clearly with just a flick of the wrist, which this watch picks up well. Also on a walk I can see that I need to put in a bit of a jog now and then to do my burn out minutes in the day. Initially not obvious how to use as the info is non existent with it, but bear with it and you will be very satisfied. Am tempted to buy another as a spare it is that good. You can download extra faces but the supplied ones are really useful. Step count is spot on. Data at end of a walk is really informative, keeping track of pace, altitude, cadence, various speeds, gives you a Km pace every Km as you walk. Brilliant. Such good value. Six years (yes!) still going strong. Heart rate is a bit out but otherwise works as per day 1.

Great, if its functionality is what you want
I've only had this watch a few days, and so far, I love it. It does not pretend to do everything that an Android Wear smartwatch does, but everything that it does, it does well. I have previously owned a Huawei W1 Classic, which I returned, as it was just too flaky. Apart from that, its battery life was useless; especially if you wanted to use it for sleep monitoring. For the last 18 months I've had a Huawei Fit Watch, which has decent battery life, but a dull monochrome display, and difficult user interface. That device provides in a decent sleep monitor (although it thinks you are asleep if you stay very still) and step counter, and when taken for a walk or run with a smart phone, combines GPS data from that device to plot the route, using the Health App, and computes stride length, cadence etc. It provides message notifications and vibrates when phone calls are received. It's heart rate monitor takes intermittent samples, and is a bit flaky; sometimes producing erroneous, dangerously high, one sample long peaks. The Huawei Watch GT should be considered to be the replacement for the FIT, and not a member of the W1, W2 smartwatch family. It starts with the functionality of the FIT watch, adds to it, and removes most of its weaknesses. It's display is bigger, brighter, crisper, and colourful. There are are a number of faces to choose from, (more since a firmware update), but unfortunately, they are not customisable. The user interface is greatly improved by the addition of 2 chunky buttons, and the battery life has improved further. I've used 10% in 2 days, which has included a large amount of time spent investigating its capabilities. The heart rate monitor operates continuously, and is now reliable, but a bit laggy (probably due to the low powered, low power processor it uses). Sleep tracking seems to be accurate, measuring and displaying periods of wakefulness, deep sleep, light sleep and REM. It also analyses breathing and the App computes an overall figure of merit for "sleep quality". it also provides useful lifestyle tips to improve sleep continuity, breathing, deep sleep, etc. In that respect it has the same functionality as the FIT but it does it better - probably because it uses improved sensor technology, and can afford to monitor heart rate continuously. It now incorporates GPS, so you don't need to take your phone with you to translate the steps taken into an accurate route. However, although the route appears as a google maps - like graphic in the app, and although it computes the average speed, stride length, etc, it doesn't have a data export function, so you if you want the route stored, to be analysed, or input into other apps, you will still need to take your phone or other GPS device with you). The GT incorporates barometer, altimeter and compass so the route analysis includes climbs and descents, for more accurate computation of calories burnt. Although it uses the same App as the FIT, I now get a calculation of the aerobic training effect, V02 Max and recovery time which I did not get with the FIT. Also, I now get all the information in easy to read displays on the watch itself. Similarly, although I received message and call alerts on the FIT, the messages were difficult to read and to scroll through, but on the GT they work well. The phone includes a wider range of exercises than available on the app, including climbing, outdoor and indoor cycling, pool swim, and open water swim. I haven't yet investigated how those get analysed and stored in the app. So, if you are frustrated by the poor battery life of Android Wear watches, are interested in monitoring your activity and tracking your sleep, but don't : a) take your exercise so seriously that you need to have an instantaneous pulse measurement, b) need to be able to download your GPS data - e.g. to analyse where in the run you slowed down c) you don't feel the need to be able to answer your phone to control your music , or to navigate using google maps from your watch d) can put up with the watch faces provided by Huawei Then this watch is probably what you are looking for.
