Short and sweet
Awesome book by a prolific artist of our time. At first, I found the dialog a little much for my liking, but it won me over. I wished the story would have continued on, but in this gem I found a great sense that Mr. Scott-Heron was giving us a look at the mental state of civil rights at the time.

Old school message
It is an old school message meant to describe the 1970's. It tells of how the Civil Rights movement was betrayed by petty drug dealers and wanna be prophets of a new society. It touches upon the contradiction of being black in the US and not having a thing to do to counter the criminal elements.

Too Ebonic
I am unable to read this book and understand it, because the author uses poor grammar and I do not understand 1973 black urban slang. I am glad I bought this used.

Gil scores again
If you're accustomed to Gil the poet and musician, both novels will take you by surprise. I found this story really gripping. I had to read up to the middle, go to the end and back to the middle to complete the book properly. Couldn't take the dramatic tension

I love the music
I love the music, so Im biased, but Gil Scott Heron was a gifted writer, it was after all those words to his music that made his name. Its just a shame so little attention is paid to his written works, which is no surprise when your a musical genius whose influence is still strong today.
