Very useful and helpful it’s awesome. But I wish it had more details on the calls

After reading this book, I find it to be one of the most if not the most informative instructional tools for any turner who is interested in making high end and high quality duck calls. It breaks down the process of making calls from, choosing materials, styles and basic understanding of the sounding techniques needed to make the best call. It is easy to read and has information not usually made available to the turner who is looking to start out making calls, or to the experienced call maker, looking to improve his or hers technique. The photos are excellent, the colors are vibrant, the handling of the step by step proccess is superb, I would have to say there is not another book on the market of such detailed quality. Since purchasing this book I have turned many calls that have gained me nothing but praise from friends and family, and made enough profit to keep purchasing high quality materials to continue making calls....this book is a bargain in its own right. Buy it with confidence. Share it with pride.

As a pen turner and upland game hunter, I naturally thought that turning and making game calls was a easily transferred skill. Wrong. The turning part of making calls seems straight forward but as I read further, there apparently are critical relationships between the call "guts" and the turning. I think!I do appreciate the talent needed to build a good game call especially the experience of a good ear. If you know what a call should sound like then you can probably come up with a usable call.But I love the shapes of custom calls and will make a few more as display or gift items for some friends, or maybe buy a good call and turn a fancy mouthpiece.If you are lucky enough to have lathe turning skills as well as experience calling game, buy this book and create your own art. Recommended AAA+

This is an excellent book on the subject, but be very careful if you go to the Greg Keats web site to purchase an item. On 3/18/08, I ordered the guts for a goose call and waited a week to send an email to find out that it will ship until 3/31/08 (they were closed for Easter). It is now 4/11/08 and I still do not have the part! I sent an email asking for the tracking number and still no results. I also sent emails asking advice on the construction of the call using their parts and got sarcastic results until I told him the reason I was asking was because the info I wanted was not covered in his coauthored book.

I owned one copy of "Turning Custom Duck and Game Calls" and ordered two more from Amazon. I gave one of the copies to a student and put the other in my classroom library. Good step by step photos with explanatory print to fill in the gaps. Clear enough that a high schooler can follow it and that is saying something!I do woodturning when I am not out in the woods taking pictures. Even photographers enjoy other interests.

This is an excellent book but is somewhat short on detail in some areas. Illustrations are great. It was worth the price and should be a good guide. There is limited information available for the novice duck call turner.

Hubby loves this book and it is helping him out in his current addiction, i should say, or maybe not an addiction. Anyway, so far it is a very helpful book in regards to making game calls on your own. One must is, the correct equipment and time. A lot of time for errors and gaining perfection.

This is a good book which is easy to follow. I have made several calls and they are great. I am looking forward to finding the time to make more.

I was lost when I wanted to move past pen turning and start making calls, this book was very usefull. I now have a plan and know where to find my materials.
