Disappointed
Bloch, the author of this work on compressor technology, has assembled an interesting compilation of field experience on the subject of reciprocating and dynamic compressors. Certainly it is difficult to find another text that covers operational issues as broadly as this one. Nevertheless, the book leaves me deeply disappointed for two reasons.First, the author elected to include material on performance calculations and testing of dynamic compressors - and this is appropriate/necessary for such a book. However, the background theory is missing - for example I was unable to find any reference to the Euler turbomachine equation which is fundamental to understanding the basics of dynamic machines. This in my opinion is a gross omission and is unacceptable in this type of book.Second objection - the appendix contains a set of charts that can be used for quick, graphical estimates of compressor performance. These are potentially very useful - the problem is that they are absolutely illegible. Evidently they are mediocre copies from another book. These shortcomings really need to be addressed considering the very high price tag.Regrettably, for these reasons I decided to return the book.

Compressor Performance Monitoring Simplified
As the Lead Process Reliability Engineer in a 280MBPD refinery I am expected to train our engineering staff on monitoring strategies that will drive down our unplanned event and equipment maintenance costs. Recently I was assigned the responsibility to develop an effective compressor monitoring program to take advantage of turnaround planning and PPM opportunities within the refinery. Since my background is primarily in chemical and utilities operations, I felt that this book could assist me in meeting expectations.I was not disappointed. This book strikes a unique balance between the basic principles of compressor operation, and the more technical issues sought out by experienced mechanical engineers. I give it the highest marks because of the inclusion of chapter 19, which provided not only the information that resolves centrifugal compressor performance monitoring, but has the potential to be used by production personnel for deliberate energy savings in years to come.

Overly complicated
While I work in the frield - this book is a tough read. Itr's style and presentation are very complex.
