Good little speakers
tl;dr: I'm happy with the sound and the build quality, as well as the ease of use. I'll keep them, assuming they don't auto-bork within the warranty period. _________ I've had these speakers for a couple of days (bought two to use either in dual or stereo setup). They are smaller than typical inexpensive square plastic computer speakers and weigh quite a bit more. They also sound better, unless your PC speakers cost more than $30 and include a sub-woofer. They are easy to connect via Bluetooth on both PC and Mac. I haven't tried them on Linux or a phone. The stereo connection function is easy as well. The included instruction booklet is clear and concise. I haven't tried the Dual function yet. I haven't tried them farther than 10 feet (approx. three meters) apart from the sound source or from each other. Things like walls and the transmitting power of the Bluetooth circuit in the audio device are going to have an impact on range and performance. The volume control is + or - 16 steps, and the little red power light on the control end of the speaker will blink once when you reach either 0% or 100%. TIP: Turn the speaker on and, before you connect it to an audio source or device, reduce the volume to 0% then press "+" eight times to take the volume to around 50%. You may also want to adjust the audio volume on your device to a lower level until you get a feel for the speaker. My guess is that there is quite a bit of audio processing and active EQ going on inside the speakers, and it favors and boosts bass frequencies. If you have EQ presets on your audio device, then hopefully there will be a few that roll-off or attenuate the bass. They'll have names like Spoken Word, Bass Reduce, Treble Boost, etc. For my purposes, these are "micro field" speakers that I'll use to listen to music or news while sitting at a laptop. I also tried them out as speakers for an audio device on a bookshelf. They work just fine for background music and podcasts, and fill the room. Obviously the won't move as much air as good quality bookshelf speakers but the sound is clear and pleasant. If I were going to crank up the volume I'd decrease the bass EQ on the music player first. The slightly raised control buttons are easy enough to memorize - a good thing given that they are the same matte black rubber as the rest of that end of the speaker. I suppose I would use little stickers or a white-on-black tape in label maker if I wasn't going to be handling them often. The speakers power off after a little while (haven't timed it yet) if there is no source audio, so using them to have a louder phone alarm in the morning probably work out.

Oontz speakers will surprise you with their quality for the price
This is my 3rd Oontz speaker (and I have given a couple as gifts) and this one is kind of adorable. It’s really tiny, and I wanted it to be small to easily be carried in my beach bag. The charge seems to last a long time as it does with my other Oontz speakers. They seem to use quality parts because even the oldest, most beat up, used (and abused) one still functions perfectly. I’ve never had an issue pairing with any of my devices. Definitely recommend if you want a durable, reliable, convenient speaker. It’s not the top tier in sound but it’s definitely respectable (and amazing for its price, with a decent low end and a relatively fat sound for the size).

Good for personal listening, not for anything else
I was able to keep up with the OontZ Solo speaker for an hour - my experience was underwhelming. This speaker works well for tabletop use, smaller areas like bathrooms or kitchens, and scenarios where your need for portable audio is 'small' size. It does get loud, but not in a particularly pleasant way. Design and Portability: Credit where its due, the speaker is compact and easy to carry around, has thoughtfully put non-slip rubber feet, can stand on its side, has four holes punched in the body to put a lanyard through and hook it on a bag or carry in hand - very nice! All answers are right answers with that many options. Sound Quality: The bass is decent for a speaker this size. There’s (supposedly) a dedicated driver for the lows located opposite the control buttons, pushing out air that you can feel through the side vents. However, it lacks the depth and impact I expected. You'll hear a clear beat, but you won't feel the thump. The sound is good for what it is—a small, budget-friendly speaker—but don’t expect booming bass, that's just not what is possible at this size. Of course there are bigger, similarly priced speakers that have much worse bass than this, so kudos to the makers for being able to take out the most out of this size. Also, it says "dual speaker" at the bottom, but I could see only one behind the mesh - check in the pictures. The "dual speaker" is perhaps to acknowledge that you can pair two of these speaker together for a true stereo sound. Seems like a sus move. So, the 'Solo' speaker is a mono unit after all. Connectivity: Charging via micro-USB is a bit outdated, and one of the reasons I'll be returning this, but it gets the job done. Appreciated is the inclusion of a 3.5mm port, which adds versatility by allowing for wired connections. It’s a simple but effective feature if you want to chain multiple speakers or connect to an audio source directly. Cons: The biggest drawback—it can get a bit harsh and 'tear' at high volumes. It’s a compact speaker, and while seems to have a dedicated bass driver, the experience is more like a reading the menu, than tasting the steamy dumpling - I know it's there, but why am I getting none of it. Also, the reliance on micro-USB in 2024 feels like a dated choice. USB-C, please. Conclusion: It is a rugged portable speaker for casual use, but its sound limitations mean it’s not for me personally. It’s a solid choice if you’re after a small, dependable speaker, but if you are looking for deeper bass and more than a personal audio solution, you might want to explore other options.

Best portable speaker I've ever purchased
I've used this OontZ Angle Solo most days and often for hours on end for five months and it works just as perfectly as on the day it arrived. This is the fifth portable speaker I've bought and is the first one to not fail/start failing soon after purchase even though it's had the most use due to the lockdown. And it's even the second least expensive one I've had. The most consistent problem with the other (very similar) types was always the recharging port. Despite my being careful with electronics it would soon become apparent that port was sinking into the device's hard rubber covering, making it more difficult to connect the cable until it became impossible. Besides that one worked erratically and in two others the power button also slowly sank into the device. Two went bad within the return period. One lasted about 7 months or so (setting a major record at the time), but showed signs of the dreaded sinking port long before that. This OontZ Angle Solo not only hasn't exhibited any problems but it even sounds better and sounds stronger although one other was supposedly about equal and two were at least one model tier above this one and billed as being much more powerful. They never sounded as good as this one. I was so surprised by by its superior clarity, BlueTooth range, and power... even though the Amazon description says "Compact Size, SURPRISINGLY Loud Volume & Bass, 100 Foot Wireless Range, IPX5, Perfect Travel Speaker". Omigawds! It turned out to be TRUE! Imagine that! In case I haven't made this clear, I am quite chuffed by its quality, hassle-free life, and lack of Sinking Ports. I highly recommend it.

Great speaker for an affordable price
I have purchased a total of 4 of the Oontz speakers. I have one of the Angle 3 models permanently paired with my Echo device in a bedroom. My second one was an Angle 3 with the older style USB cables. I gave that one away after about 3 years using it to get one with USB C charging cable. I gave that one to a friend and they are using it every day for podcasts. I bought a new Angle 3 for myself for use with my phone. I use it all around the house. I garden with it and when friends are visiting on the patio, it comes with us. I’m really happy with my little, mobile speakers. The charge they hold is great. The sound is really pretty good, especially for a little speaker. And I just bought the little Solo for use as a computer speaker. All four of mine have been reliable and consistant in playing. I did buy a new micro USB cord that was longer than the 3ft that came with the unit. It does not come with the plug-in but I have so many of those already, that I didn't care.

Exceeded my expectations
After reading reviews on the Oontz Angle Solo and several other competing speakers, based on reviews, I settled on the Oontz (BTW, I bought it on Amazon at a super sale price). I was looking to replace an early-model Bluetooth mini speaker from another manufacturer that I used for travel. That speaker was unreliable in its Bluetooth connection, the controls were wacky, the soft-touch finish had become sticky and, most importantly, it just didn’t sound good. After having traveled with the Oontz Angle Solo for 11 days, I’m ready to add my review to the others. For a speaker I intended to use for travel, this one ticked all my boxes: 1) The small size is perfect; 2) The case is rigid and sturdy enough that I’m not concerned it will get crushed or broken—very solid construction; 3) Bluetooth connection with my phone is consistent and reliable—turn it on and it connects right away and stays connected across the room; 4) The controls are straightforward and easy to understand; and 5) The sound is clear with good overall tone, reasonable bass for a speaker this size and it can play pretty loud. [I worked in the home audio industry for many years and I think I can most assuredly attest that this is a good and good-sounding product considering its price and size. I have other speakers for serious listening]. Plus it can be paired with another Oontz speaker for left-right stereo or dual speaker sound. I have not yet tried the speakerphone feature. For what I paid, it would be hard to beat the Angle Solo. I like it so much that when I saw the Oontz Angle 3 reduced on Amazon, I bought one. I intend to use it as the left speaker (control speaker) with the Angle Solo as the right at my desk. I’m thinking the extra bass from the larger Angle 3 will enhance the stereo sound. I’ll report on this in a review of the Angle 3.

Great sound, a little boomy but clear, crisp and loud
12/5: Constant disconnects tho never while actively in use . I can’t get a handle on why but believe it’s the speaker and not the iPad. 1/25: One con that has become annoying is that these will not reconnect automatically. You have to go into bluetooth settings and manually connect them every time they’ve been disconnected either due to having been out of range or the device power cycled. (UPDATE: OR IF IT WASN USED FOR MORE THAN 12 HOURS OR SO, UGH) original: Great speaker. The volume is excellent, they don’t rattle or buzz and they sound great. The bluetooth connection works flawlessly. I haven’t tried pairing them to get stereo. They are slightly heavy on the lower mid and bottom and a little lacking up high. I’m using them mainly for audiobooks and for TV via the hdhomerun app on tablets. These are a big improvement over built-in speakers even though my iPad speakers are very, very good. UPDATE: I love them more every day. I have one on each of my iPads which *are* my computer and entertainment systems. They’re sitting on pedestals I made by drilling into my desk and threading 1/8” diameter all-thread rods directly into the holes. Then I cut platforms approx 3” x 5” from lexan and tapped holes in them to screw onto the upper end of the rods. They stand above the level of everything else at the back of the desk, sound is unimpeded and I couldn’t be happier. Simple is good.
