People trashing the product over the stock need to cool it.
The company is having problems and suddenly everybody forgets how good the products have been and for how long. This was no exception. I had ann old Alienware motherboard, five or six years old, and it was a great upgrade. POE2 and TnL run easily

Chip Lottery Winner?
I was able to get an overclock of 4.7GHz making me a chip lottery winner? What am I supposed to say here?
It fricken screams, supplier was excellent, got here on time, 18 cores, 32 processes, overclocks if you want it, stays really cool if you don't but still fast as... Price is up there, but when you build a machine you expect to keep it a few years now, so that price is split out over some time. I had my last dual xeon for 5 or 6 years, the top xeon is 3 times the price of this chip, plus you need 2, so this was the answer for the next few years.

Not worth the price to be honest. (I retract my previous review)
I had high hopes for this processor but kinda let down. It does ok for gaming but I really should have done the 9900k and got to clock above 4.2 Hertz. (Pointed out this should be 4.2 GHz and not Hertz)So after messing with this chip a little more I found my issue was a problem with my closed loop water cooler that was causing thermal throttling. I have since replaced it with a custom water cooling system and this processor rocks. Bit more expensive but truly worth it.

frustrated...
No problem with the CPU that I know of, yet. It's for a future build. Didn't know how to talk to seller. Outer boxing for this CPU was opened - inner packaging okay. As long as you honor the warranty I'm good but if you whine out of the warranty after I assemble this because it doesn't work, I'll be P_SSED. Just sayin...Update: CPU has been running with no problem for last few months. It's pretty quick to me.

The best 18-core processor for LGA2066
Better, faster, stronger. This 18-core processor really delivers exceptional processing speed and overclocking power to Deep Learning prototyping. Although most of the training is done with GPU, having a multi-core processor is helpful to process large batches of data. Optimization algorithms can take advantage of every single core to expedite exact and heuristic methods without the need of expensive servers. Using the optimized version of OpenCV for CPU delivers inference under 20 milliseconds and speeds of at least 30 frames per second.

Above average member of the x299 line
Sad to see AMD zealots infest every review. I own both 980XE and Threadripper systems, and its horses for courses. High end workstation with gaming and single threaded needs? Intel. Render farms, servers, or pure throughput needs? Threadripper. High end matrix math? Intel. Bang for buck overall? AMD.The 980XE Skylake flagship was an overpriced line when released, but paid dividends for someone who matched its features well. The 9980XE and 10980XE actually lose a few stars compared to the original masterpiece 7980XE, because of the changes to internal heat sink and minimal overclocking increases. Point being, you can OC an original 7980XE at or past these speeds, AND have better control of on-chip temps. Major reason why you see price cuts in later line 980XE parts, while original 7980XE’s for sale with high OC’s are holding high price points well.For those doing Intel / TR comparisons, make sure you are examining the overclocked scores of each chip and not the stock. Threadripper trounces 980XE platform in stock speeds, but if both platforms are tweaked to the hilt, the margins are much closer. You end up seeing only 10-15% gain for AMD on most multithreading tasks, even with 2x or higher the number of cores. Why? Compiler optimization. This also means the margins will be decreasing over time, as more people buy Threadrippers. Already seeing this in GCC.Disclaimer: I own and enjoy AMD products, especially Threadripper CPUs. But the online echo chamber that has built up around AMD and Ryzen in just a few years is mind boggling. Set aside your CPU favorites or bias for a moment. When prominent tech Youtubers make videos titled “I’m going AMD”, and then act like a prodigal son who has found truth and returned to a religious order... uhm, yeah.
