Q: What are the dimensions of this filter

It is not sized to fit inside 4" thinwall pvc. Mine will need modified to fit or it will break pushing it in. Its about 17" long

No Schedule 40 PVC has an internal dimension of 3.998". This filter has an external dimension of 4.1"

Q: Is the product image the same as the item received? is the handle at the top the same or is the handle split or divided??

The filter is the same as the image. Yes, the handle is on top and it is not split or divided.

Q: does the direction of flow matter

Direction of flow does matter but it will spin around in 4" s&d pipe, its tight, I sanded the sides a little to get easier removal. It needs checked/cleaned every year or so. It will keep solids from leaving the tank.
