Yes, as this is a smaller (hand gun) version of rival.

I can’t say an exact distance, but I think it shoots pretty far!

Q: What other balls are compatible with this than the official nerf balls?

Adventure Force Tactical Bullets, they are sold at Walmart.

Q: Do these hurt more or less than the darts when they hit you?

That actually depends on the darts fired. If it’s “stinger” type darts, I’ll have to say the darts. If it’s Waffle tip darts, I’ll say the rival ball rounds. But if it’s a Rival Knockout converted to shoot darts (SoSickWithIt via Etsy), then I’d say any dart will hurt more at 120 FPS. For all intensive purposes, the Rival balls do not hurt because they are made of soft foam. The stigma of “hurting” more comes from the increased FPS (Rival is adjusted to be around the 90 FPS range) and marketed age range of 14 and older instead of 8 and older for the other Nerf blasters (limited to be around the 60-70 FPS range).
